Cagliari: pediatric intensive care at Brotzu hospital, green light from the council.

Green light of the Giunta to the reassignment of six pediatric intensive care beds which had been destined for the hospital during the Covid era Holy Trinity of Cagliari. The beds will be reassigned to theArnas G. Brotzu, within the expected “Children's Hospital“, a structure that will aggregate the skills of the regional pediatric and neonatology network and will perform a coordination function for the same.

The choice comes from the need to overcome the previous provisions issued in the Covid era, when the Santissima Trinità had been identified as a reference structure for the management of mothers giving birth and small paediatric patients affected by SARS-CoV-2, for which the garrison of Is Mirrionis he could have continued to avail himself of the support of Arnas Brotzu.

“An emergency logic that no longer has any reason to exist today”, comments the Health Councillor Armando Bartolazzi. "What we need to do today is to focus more and more on the integration and strengthening of pediatric hospital services: for this reason we have considered it appropriate to concentrate the high performance offer within the Arnas Brotzu, thus promoting the strengthening of the vocational aspects already present within the hospital company which – the councillor recalls – is also home to the Level II DEA of the South East Sardinia area. "

Arnas Brotzu is already home to various clinical and surgical activities in the pediatric area: pediatric surgery, pediatric traumatology and orthopedics, clinical and nephro-urology, pediatric anesthesia, pediatric cardiology, pediatric emergency room, pediatric oncohematology, transplant and bone marrow center.

“As already repeatedly clarified, the location of the pediatric intensive care unit inside the Brotzu hospital requires a reorganization of the spaces that will not lead to any reduction to the detriment of the adult intensive care unit”, Bartolazzi further clarifies. “Over 42 million euros are available for the adjustments and the purchase of new equipment, allocated by law decree 34/2020 on the Covid emergency.”

The reassignment will involve the update of the regional hospital network bed configuration and will be transmitted to the Regional Council for opinion of the competent council commission.
