Cagliari: A robbery hypothesis involving fake carabinieri and kidnapping discovered and foiled, two arrests
A coordinated operation by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Cagliari, with the support of the military of the Companies of Cagliari, Dolianova, Iglesias and Carbonia, has brought to the arrest of two people suspected of having planned a robbery with kidnapping, disguised as members of the Carabinieri. The intervention, the result of a lightning-fast investigative activity, made it possible to avert a possible criminal action that was supposed to have taken place this morning. The investigations, developed through a dense network of information feedback and discreet observation services, they allowed us to gather evidence against two men, whose behavior had aroused the suspicions of the military for several days.
Monitoring activities have allowed us to narrow down the radius of action to an isolated farmhouse in the Fraighedda area, in the municipality of Decimoputzu, considered a possible support point. After a brief observation service, the Carabinieri decided to intervene, surprising the suspects inside the structure, a property attributable to a person already known to the police force. The search of the farmhouse confirmed the suspicions: Inside, a large amount of material was found, suitable for carrying out the robbery.
The seized material included a semi-automatic Luger pistol with six 9x19mm rounds, two portable radios, safety handcuffs, rolls of duct tape, plastic cable ties, a construction hammer and two stolen vehicles with recycled license plates. However, the most disturbing element concerns the discovery of uniforms, windcheaters, belts and winter sweaters exclusively issued to the Carabinieri, a clear sign of the intention of the subjects to pretend to be members of the Police Force to carry out the robbery with a deception studied down to the smallest details.
The operation probably avoided the commission of a criminal act which, according to the investigative hypotheses, could have involved other subjects still in the identification phase. The discovery of logistical material and the availability of a firearm suggest that violence could have been used, making the preventive intervention of the Carabinieri even more decisive.
At the end of the ritual formalities, The two arrested were transferred to the Uta prison, by order of the Judicial Authority, which coordinates the investigation. The investigative operations continue without stopping to trace the entire network of contacts and to identify any accomplices who may have provided logistical or informational support to the two arrested subjects.
