Cagliari: Animal Registry Created for Greater Control and Help for Breeders

A single register of animal welfare and a regional coordination office of an inter-departmental nature capable of governing the decision-making processes and prevention actions concerning the entire animal health chain in the livestock sector. This is the agreement that emerged from the summit at the headquarters of the Regional Health Department between the Councilor Armando Bartolazzi and the Regional Councillor for Agriculture, Gianfranco Satta, in view of the next vaccination campaign in spring 2025.

During the meeting, the fragmentation of the current knowledge framework was highlighted, which, beyond the registry census carried out by the individual regional health authorities, relegates subsequent declarations to the initiative of individual breeders. In other words, until now there has been no possibility for breeders to refer to a single regional body for the registration procedures, required by law, relating to births, deaths and movements of animals.

For this reason, Councilor Bartolazzi has decided to commission the Regional Health Authority Ares to prepare a regional tender in order to finally have a centralization of the essential data and thus be able to create a single registry. "These actions - Explains Bartolazzi - they are essential for traceability, for planning, for managing and monitoring vaccination campaigns, as well as for evaluating the results relating to the actions undertaken, also for the purpose of calculating compensation” adds the councilor, concluding that the offices of the Health Department are already working to verify the path hypotheses together with those of Agriculture.

“The creation of a single register of animal welfare marks a decisive turning point for the regional livestock sector. This system will guarantee greater transparency and control, offering breeders a single point of reference and simplifying procedures. This is a concrete change that strengthens our prevention and traceability capabilities, especially in view of the 2025 vaccination campaign. This is a fundamental step forward for animal health and for the competitiveness of the entire regional agricultural sector.,” comments the Agriculture Councillor Gianfranco Satta.
