Brescia: Mother Tongue Festival 2025, six afternoons dedicated to linguistic diversity.

From February 1st to 23rd, the Mother Tongue Festival celebrates the importance of the native language with events, performances and readings for schools.

Brescia: Mother Tongue Festival 2025, six afternoons dedicated to linguistic diversity.

It's back in 2025 too Mother Tongue Festival, which this year will be developed on six afternoons: 1, 2, 8, 16, 22 and 23 February. The event celebrates the inalienable right to maintain their native language and connects to the International Mother Language Day, established by theUNESCO il 21 February to remember the students killed in 1952 in Dhaka (Bangladesh) while demonstrating for the recognition of the Bengali language.

The festival is coordinated by the Lingua Madre Association, which for two years has been promoting initiatives dedicated tointerculturality and the protection of linguistic and cultural diversity.

A renewed edition between shows and narrations

This year the festival presents itself with a new formula: different groups they will alternate in narratives and shows, telling not only about their own language, but also about their own belonging culture.

In addition to the main events, the program includes two special initiatives:

  • From the 18 21 Februaryin four city librariesWill be held readings in native language for primary school students.
  • A special section of the magazine ZONA508 (coordinated by the Prison and Territory Association OdV, ETS) will be dedicated to Native language.

The festival will end on 23 February, with a day dedicated to initiatives in schools.
