Brescia: SPACE, the after-school sports program for primary and lower secondary schools, returns to the Don Bosco neighborhood
Sport as a human and social practice, as a space with high educational potential. But also as a tool for entertainment through which to express oneself, share experiences and grow together, useful for promoting development and psychophysical well-being
Brescia: SPACE, the after-school sports program for primary and lower secondary schools, returns to the Don Bosco neighborhood
For the second consecutive year he is back SPACE, free after-school sports aimed at children, boys and girls who attend the primary and secondary schools of the Don Bosco district.
The project, which is part of the actions foreseen by the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (SUS) put into action by theMunicipal administration, integrates the educational function with a varied and articulated motor proposal.
At the same time, it responds to the need for family support during time slots when parents are busy at work, and gives the new generations the opportunity to get closer to different sports disciplines: rugby, cricket, ultimate frisbee, martial arts, artistic gymnastics, dance, basketball, field hockey, swimming, breakdance, capoeira and even parkour, thanks to the new equipped platform inaugurated last December in the gardens of via Sardegna.
The service, managed by the cooperatives The Cloud in the Sack, The Bumblebee ed Be, and hosted in the facilities of the School Workshop (ex Bettinzoli) in via Caleppe, is open every day Monday to Friday, for the entire school year, also covering the school closure periods (Christmas and Easter holidays), for a total of 35 weeks.
The service is funded by the Municipality of Brescia for three school years, until June 2027, with an investment of 190.000 euros.
Le afternoon openings they are diversified according to the school group:
- one dedicated to the secondary school of the first degree, from 14.45pm to 16.45pm;
- the other reserved for the primary, from 16.45 to 18.45.
Each session, curated by professional educators and certified sports technicians and instructors, includes ahomework help and study method improvement activities (especially for secondary school students) followed by at least one hour of sports practice.
The calendar of proposals will vary during the school year with the possibility, therefore, to continuously experiment with new disciplines, especially those less known and widespread.
In 'previous edition, the after-school program has collected more than 110 registrations (in the 6 to 13 age group) from the institutes in the Don Bosco area, but also from other schools in the southern area of Brescia: the Crispi, Rinaldini, Canossi primary schools and the Bettinzoli and Pascoli secondary schools.
To broaden the offer and intensify the relationship with the neighborhood, some events are planned during the year extra activities including workshops, trips, initiatives and events organized in collaboration with the associations and local realities, in line with what was done in 2024 with Spazio Lampo, Pane Blu, Perlar and the oratories of Santa Maria in Silva and Don Bosco.
As already mentioned, the service is included among the operations dictated by the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy, the set of political and administrative lines for the redevelopment of the urban and peripheral areas of the south-west of the city, through initiatives and tools for social innovation, territorial animation and regeneration of public spaces.
In particular, SPACE intervenes its in the urban portion (with a population of almost 7.400 inhabitants) affected by the project “School at the Center of the Future”, a flagship action of the SUS, which by 2029 will deliver to Don Bosco a new, welcoming and innovative school and cultural center.
