Bergamo, an entire criminal organization neutralized. False invoices for over 20 million euros. All associates arrested and 9,4 million euros seized

As part of investigations conducted by the Guardia di Finanza of Bergamo, an order was executed personal precautionary measure against six people and a preventive seizure order aimed at confiscating, even in equivalent amounts, approximately 9,4 million euros, issued by the GIP of Bergamo at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office.

Among those arrested for criminal association aimed at committing tax crimes and money laundering, there are two entrepreneurs from Bergamo, active in the marble processing sector and a Neapolitan accountant, with a studio in Naples and Milano, which provided a decisive contribution to the conception and implementation of the complex criminal system.

The investigations, conducted by the Economic and Financial Police Unit of Bergamo, They shed light on a network of fictitious commercial operations, used to defraud VAT and accumulate large sums of money not paid into the state coffers. These funds were then transferred to Bulgaria through a series of bank transactions.

Bergamo, neutralizzata un'intera organizzazione criminale. Fatture false per oltre 20 milioni di euro. Arrestati tutti i sodali e sequestrati 9,4 milioni di euro

The anomalous amount of money moved attracted the attention of the anti-money laundering authorities of Bulgarian financial intermediaries, who requested explanations on the commercial operations underlying the movements. In response to these requests, the criminal organization set up four consulting firms in Bulgaria, which were responsible for issuing false invoices for services provided, in order to justify the illicit origin of the funds.

For the success of the illegal operation in Bulgaria, the involvement of the aforementioned accountant, under house arrest, was immediately essential. He worked to provide a semblance of regularity to the suspicious financial flows. In this way, the illicitly obtained money was “cleaned” and then, through further corporate steps, it became cash that could be repatriated to Italy. The sums returned to our country in various ways: through further apparent commercial operations, through bank withdrawals made using debit cards issued by Bulgarian institutions or through the use of "spalloni", members of the organisation who transferred large sums in cash. (up to 200.000 euros per trip) using your own means or aircraft.

Once “laundered,” the cash was used to finance a luxurious lifestyle and purchase high-value goods, including high-end watches. (Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Longines) and real estate properties, even those of particular value. The searches carried out so far have already led to the seizure of numerous bank accounts, approximately 33.000 euros in cash, valuable properties, cars, gold bars and other luxury goods.

The investigative activities carried out in the last few days revealed, after the notification to the suspects of the decree setting a preventive interrogation, a concrete and current activity of tampering with evidence in progress as well as, with reference to one suspect, the risk of escape. The aggravated precautionary framework therefore led the GIP of Bergamo, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office, to order urgent personal precautionary measures.

The operation represents an important action to combat money laundering and tax fraud practices, to protect the legal economy. It demonstrates the continued attention of the Bergamo Public Prosecutor's Office and the Guardia di Finanza in countering the flow of illicit capital, which hinders the economic and employment growth of the country.
