Benevento: The Carabinieri unmask a pair of serial thieves in the shopping center

The military intervention took place on the evening of 28 March, following a phone call received by the Operations Centre reporting the presence of 2 suspicious individuals inside the shopping mall “Good wind” of the San Vito district. A patrol of the Radiomobile Section arrived immediately on site and The 2 men were identified and arrested.

The soldiers found theinterior of the car used by 2 Georgian citizens a pair of trousers still equipped with the anti-theft plate, subsequently results stolen inside a clothing store of the shopping center.

Furthermore, the 2 foreign citizens were wearing a jacket and they brought with them a borsello, both “screened”, whose pockets had in fact been lined lined with aluminum foil, a device used for evade anti-shoplifting systems.

Subsequent investigations, also thanks to the viewing of images from video surveillance systems, allowed us to reconstruct the modus operandi of the two men, who acted with meticulous organization: after having selected the goods, they hid them in clothing shielded with aluminum to bypass the control devices and surveillance.

Furthermore, the activity of the Carabinieri has allowed us to ascertain that the two were also involved in numerous thefts of perfumery items, which occurred during the month of March at a well-known chain of perfume shops in the same shopping mall.

Thanks to the meticulous reconstruction of the facts, the evidentiary framework was clearly outlined, allowing the two Georgians at liberty to be reported to the competent Judicial Authority.

The timely intervention and scrupulous information activity conducted by the Carabinieri of the Benevento Company has prevented the 2 from landing any more shots within the commercial activities of the “Shopping Center” of the capital. The synergy between citizens' reports and the operational readiness of the Carabinieri is once again confirmed as a winning strategy in the fight against crime.
