Barletta, the Mayor meets Bishop Policarpo: the aim is to deepen ties with the Greek Orthodox community.
A meeting characterized by cordiality and mutual understanding was held at Palazzo di Città between Mayor Cosimo Cannito and Bishop Policarpo, Metropolitan of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Italy and Exarch for Southern Europe of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, arrived in Barletta on an institutional visit.
During the interview, both figures declared themselves in agreement inneed to deepen the links between the Barletta community and the Greek Orthodox one also in order to rediscover the history of the Greek Orthodox presence in Barletta.
In the meeting, the desire of both parties to make the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli functional and open for worship again (Church of the Greeks), owned by the Greek Orthodox Church but currently in the possession of the Municipality of Barletta.
