Andria, major anti-drug operation: 30 precautionary measures against six criminal gangs

An organized drug dealing ring in six areas of the city has been dismantled: 20 arrests in prison, 10 under house arrest. Cocaine, hashish, marijuana, and heroin were seized.

The complex investigative activity, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office and conducted by the Anti-Drug Section of the Flying Squad of the Barletta-Andria-Trani Police Headquarters, with wiretaps, shadowing and stakeouts, has brought to light a flourishing drug dealing activity cocaine, marijuana, hashish and heroinThe investigations revealed the presence of Andria of 6 distinct criminal groups, each with its own dealing area:

  • Valentine's day

  • Municipal villa

  • Historic Centre

  • Monticelli

  • Sacred Heart

  • Viale Virgilio

Customer contacts were handled by real “switchboard operators”, who arranged the time and place of the meetings by telephone. At that point, the pusher – often on scooters or electric bikes – reached the buyers for delivery. In some cases, the sales even took place during the daily routines: a wiretap reports a conversation between a pusher at the distributor and his family, who indicated his location to the buyer to conclude the transaction.

It also emerged that the traditional concept of “drug dealing square” is decreasing: the pushers moved over larger areas and in a dynamic manner, making it difficult to identify. During the investigations, 55 violations contested of art. 75 DPR 309/90 and executed 6 arrests in flagrante delicto, with the seizure of: 150 grams of cocaine, 3 grams of heroin, 57 grams of hashish, and 190 grams of marijuana.

At the same time, the BAT Police Chief issued a warrant against all the suspects DASPO "out of context", introduced by the Security Decree bis of 2019, which prohibits access to sporting events even for crimes of drug dealing, regardless of the connection to sporting events. The aim is to prevent criminal infiltration into supporters.
