Monopoli: in a nightclub with a gun in his pants. 28-year-old arrested by the Carabinieri after a chase.

This morning, the Carabinieri of the Company Command of Monopoli they have executed an order for the application of a personal precautionary measure issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Bari, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office, in which they recognise, according to the accusatory approach accepted by the investigating judge (subject to the evaluation in the subsequent phases with the contribution of the defence) serious evidence of guilt against a 28-year-old from Bari, considered responsible for illegal possession of a clandestine weapon and receiving stolen goods.

The facts date back to last February, when, outside a well-known nightclub in the centre of Monopoli, the Carabinieri of the local Station Command had subjected 5 boys to a check. At that moment, one of the five, at the sight of the soldiers, to avoid the check, he had fled on foot. A chase through the city streets ensued, during which the young man suddenly pulled a pistol out of his trousers. gun, continuing to run with the weapon drawn. Having reached a nautical dock adjacent to the road, he had disposed of the weapon, throwing it into the sea, then disappearing without a trace.

The weapon was coming immediately recovered by the Carabinieri at the point where it had been seen sinking and found at a depth of 15 cm. It was a semi-automatic pistol with serial number abraded and complete with magazine containing 6 bullets, which was then seized by the military.

The subsequent investigative activity, consisting in the acquisition of the video surveillance images inside and outside the nightclub, as well as those of various commercial establishments, allowed us to reconstruct the route taken by the fleeing armed individual and to trace his identity. In fact, with the analysis of the images, it was possible to extract a frame depicting the face, allowing the Carabinieri to identify a 28-year-old from Bari burdened by numerous previous police convictions who, most recently, had already been arrested for the crimes of attempted murder with mafia aggravation and illegal possession of a weapon.

Therefore, based on what was ascertained by the Carabinieri of Monopoli, the man was reached by a precautionary custody order in prison.
