Bari: council approves executive projects for green restyling interventions in five areas for a total amount of over 2 million euros.

On the proposal of the councilor for public works Giuseppe Galasso, the council yesterday approved the executive projects relating to the implementation of five green redevelopment interventions of as many municipal spaces and gardens, listed below: green areas of via dell'Andro - total amount €180.000, green areas Parco Loseto (Lot 1) – total amount €282.000, garden in via delle Murge – total amount €698.000, new green area via Gaetano Fiore – total amount €436.000, Rita Levi Montalcini garden – total amount €432.000 .

The approved projects are part of the broader experimental action aimed at increasing urban greenery (greening and forestation), containing climate change and combating the heat island effect, financed overall for 8 million euros by the PON Metro, which provides for timely and widespread interventions across the entire municipal territory, united by the objective of improving accessibility, internal mobility and the offer of services in individual neighborhoods with a strong propensity for environmental sustainability.

“We are proceeding quickly with the approval of projects that will allow us to improve the quality of urban places through redevelopment and greening interventions that will equip the public spaces of the city identified for this purpose, whether they are green areas already existing or to be created, with new aggregative, recreational and sporting functions – comments Giuseppe Galasso -. Thanks to the overall plan developed to increase the amount of greenery in the city and to counteract the heat island effect, we continue to take care of public space in all neighborhoods to make it increasingly usable for citizens and protect it from neglect and degradation ”.

Green restyling via Dell'Andro – Municipio II

The redevelopment and restyling intervention of the vast garden in Via Dell'Andro, in Poggiofranco, intends to bring further elements of attractiveness and functionality capable of improving the existing spaces, making a multifunctional socialization area available to the neighbourhood, which sees in gaming and free time the main lever of aggregation. The intervention involves the use of innovative games (for the central play area) and leisure facilities (play area, table/picnic areas) that can be enjoyed by a varied user base, with a marked propensity for inclusiveness. The increase in the green component, with the inclusion of plants, trees and shrubs from the Mediterranean scrub, or in any case acclimatised, contributes to increasing the environmental and ecological value of the context. A localized irrigation system will also be installed, as an extension of the existing system.

To increase and diversify the possibilities of using the area, the restyling project also includes:

· the installation of a fountain, equipped with two basins of different heights, which can also be used by users in wheelchairs;

· the creation of two circular areas, each measuring approximately 13 mXNUMX, in which two sandblasted granite tables with chessboard will be installed, also accessible to wheelchair users, and granite seats.

· the creation of recreational areas among the trees, in the flowerbeds to the south-west, equipped with inclusive wooden picnic tables.

Green restyling of the Mizzi garden (Lot I Loseto) – Town Hall IV

The planned intervention concerns a section of the garden named after Giuseppe Mizzi in the Loseto district, in Municipality IV. This public space is divided into two parts: one paved and used as a play area, the other left completely green. The interventions, inspired by the concepts of inclusiveness and sustainability, aim to create spaces in which to practice sports in close contact with greenery.

As regards the configuration of a new area equipped for leisure, completely surrounded by rows of newly planted trees, it will be created in the name of continuity with the geometries of the existing spaces.

The area will also be equipped with a teqball table and some tables for playing chess or simply enjoying some relaxation in the shade of the trees.

To complete the redevelopment, the installation of an inclusive fountain and a bench equipped with pedals for older users will contribute.

New green area via delle Murge – Municipality II

The planned works aim to create a meeting place surrounded by greenery in a space previously dedicated entirely to roads.

The project idea enhances the limited spaces available by concentrating the characteristic elements of increasing greenery in the city: grafting of tree species to increase urban forestry and creation of areas rich in shrubs, improving the living conditions of residents thanks to the services which, over time, they will be generated by greenery, and increasing biodiversity and ecological potential.

The intervention involves the complete renovation of the area dedicated to the traffic island, completely redesigned, the creation of a park with a play area, a chess table area, a shaded area equipped with inclusive tables and a fitness area equipped with equipment for gentle gymnastics and calisthenics. The entire park area will be paved and some spaces will be deliberately left free of space for children to play roller games.

The increase in greenery is therefore at the basis of the idea of social aggregation in new spaces equipped for play, sport and free time. The call for inclusiveness in every design aspect remains persistent.

New green area via Gaetano Fiore – Municipality III

The intervention aims to create a new green area in via Gaetano Fiore, in the San Paolo district, through the increase of shrub species and the provision of street furniture and sports equipment.

The triangular-shaped area, located at the intersection between via Fiore and viale delle Regioni (one of the main axes that will soon be affected by the interventions of the Suburbs Plan), will host a new play area serving the neighborhood surrounded by a wall of trees and shrubs.

The planned works concern the creation of a curtain of trees (to delimit the area), interrupted by access gates at the pedestrian crossings, and the planting of shrubs along the perimeter.

A play area will also be created, covered with sand-coloured anti-shock flooring of different thicknesses, for a total surface area of 125 mXNUMX, which will feature circular portions of orange to match the tones of the play posts. There will be installed: a large multifunction structure with two aluminum towers with bridge, a trampoline, two spinner bowls and a double swing.

Green restyling garden Rita Levi Montalcini – Town Hall IV

The project involves a redevelopment of the spaces dedicated to sporting activities - also conceived and designed for elderly users - to provide the neighborhood with a new green socialization area, which sees sport as the main lever of social aggregation.

The intervention will allow a decisive forestation action with an increase in the number of trees present, so as to enhance the role of an ecological and biodiversity reservoir of this area in a neighborhood of the city where the city-countryside boundary is marked.

The insertion of flowerbeds and shrubs, then, will increase the aesthetic aspect of the overall intervention, which will also be characterized by the depaving of part of the existing surface, by the increase in the green surface of the garden and by the increase in the playground.

Below is the list of works, some of which have already started, foreseen as part of the overall project called "Experimental action for urban greenery (greening and forestation) - experimental action for the containment of climate change and the heat island effect" :
