On the joint proposal of the councilors for Climate, Energy Transition and Environment, Elda Perlino, and for Local Development and Blue Economy, Pietro Petruzzelli, the municipal council has approved the adhesion of the Municipality of Bari to the appeal of the “Marevivo ETS” Foundation, promoter of the environmental education campaign “The sea at school”, which intends to urge the Ministry of Education and Merit to promulgate the implementing decree referred to in art. 9 of Law no. 60/2022, known as “Salvamare”, as a tool to ensure the protection of our seas.
“This measure, shared with my colleague Pietro Petruzzelli, concretely implements the idea of the mayor Leccese to build the councilor delegations according to a principle of collaboration for the achievement of the mandate objectives – comments Elda Perlino -. In this case the stakes are high because they concern the protection of a fundamental resource such as the sea, an objective that can only be achieved through a new widespread awareness that must be built starting from the new generations. Our message is primarily aimed at the youth world, and schools, therefore, are the main place in which to promote correct information and targeted awareness so that virtuous behaviors are adopted for the respect of the marine ecosystem and the prevention of the abandonment of waste and plastics, which represent one of the main threats to marine fauna and flora”.
“The protection of the sea is a fundamental objective for a city like ours, which in recent years has invested heavily in the regeneration of the city coast and in a new idea of valorising spaces and activities linked to the sea – continues Pietro Petruzzelli -. By joining the project “The Sea at School” we are looking both at the health of our sea and at the well-being of the sectors that have the sea as a resource at the center of their activities, I am thinking for example of aquaculture, fishing, coastal tourism and nautical sports. The recovery of the marine ecosystem and the promotion of the blue economy are objectives that travel on the same path, and that is the one we intend to follow”.
