Bari, “Educating by Playing”: a journey through neighborhoods and school orchestras.
It was presented this morning, in the council chamber of the City Hall, the “Educare Suonando” program, a traveling journey through neighborhoods and school orchestras that will involve approximately 1000 minors, promoted by the Council Commission for Culture, Youth and Educational Policies, University and School together with the music-focused schools of Bari.
The press conference was attended by the president of the council commission Francesca Bottalico, the city councilors and members of the commission Grazia Albergo, Marco Bronzini and Angela Perna, together with the managers and teachers of the schools involved, and the videomaker Alberto Grandolfo, who made a film on the musical activities of the schools involved. The initiative aims to promote the value of the school orchestras of Bari as a precious resource of the socio-cultural heritage of the city and an educational tool for the social, cultural and relational growth of many boys and girls.
The course, which lasts one year, includes, in its first phase, on the occasion of Christmas, the creation of a program of ten free concerts of music and choirs spread throughout the city's neighborhoods: a cultural offering aimed at strengthening the programs to combat educational poverty already started and supported, on the occasion of these Christmas holidays, by the Culture Commission with the program "Books with candied fruit", and to offer further opportunities to involve many young people at risk of dropping out of school.
The initiative is organized in a network with: Amedeo d'Aosta secondary school, IC Ceglie – Manzoni – Lucarelli, IC De Amicis – Laterza – Monte San Michele, IC Fraccacreta Bari – IISS Marco Polo, IC Garibaldi, IC Giovanni Paolo II – De Marinis, IC Massari – Galilei and ICNZingarelli – A.Frank.
"What we present today is a real journey among the school orchestras of Bari, with a program that starts in the Christmas period but will last, then, all year round. - he has declared Francesca Bottalico -, with the aim of enhancing school choirs and orchestras, which represent a precious resource of the educational and cultural heritage of our city. But the initiative was also born to offer opportunities for involvement for many girls and boys who contribute to strengthening the programs to combat educational poverty, alongside other initiatives that, as a commission, we are implementing. There will be about 1000 girls and boys involved: for this I thank all the school directors, teachers, members of the commission and all the people who collaborated on this initiative with great enthusiasm and extraordinary teamwork".
“TWe are all aware that, quoting a phrase by maestro Claudio Abbado, we should not teach music to children to make them become great musicians, but so that they learn to listen and, consequently, to be listened to. – he continued Grace Hotel -. With this initiative, therefore, we want to contribute to making the orchestras and choirs of our schools more and more known, which spread culture and beauty in our city, and also educate to be together, to cooperate and to strengthen the ability to commit of many girls and boys, because, as we know, music requires great application. We are happy, therefore, of the collaboration that has been created between the commission, the managers and the teachers and we aim to ensure that this initiative transforms into a permanent network of sharing good practices of musical education, a great added value for our city".
"Music has an extraordinary educational power, as Aristotle reminds us, who, as is well known, spoke of the ability of music to produce catharsis, an authentic liberation of the soul. - he concluded Angela Perna -. These are still very current teachings, because we have a great need for educational tools that can support the harmonious growth of girls and boys who, in today's world, are already facing very complex challenges: think, for example, of the issues regarding the conscious use of the web and social media. With this initiative we also want to contribute to offering educational opportunities that work as a driver of inclusion, in a widespread way in our neighborhoods".
