Como: 576 Contraband Cuban Cigars Seized

The Finance Police of the Como Provincial Command have subjected to control, a passerby who was on board his BMW crossed the municipality of Uggiate con Ronago (CO), returning from neighbouring Switzerland, proceeding to seizure of nr. 576 Cuban cigars. The unexpected control by the Guardia di Finanza, far from the customs crossing point, created anxiety in the driver, arousing the suspicions of the financial police, who proceeded to both documentary and customs control of the same finding the cigars hidden partly inside a common and anonymous shopping bag placed in the trunk of the car, and partly in the overcoat, in such a way as to make them difficult to locate.

Therefore, the military proceeded to administrative seizure of products pursuant to art. 13, L. 689/81, for the violations referred to in art. 84 and 96 of Annex 1 to Legislative Decree 141/2024, as the object of thesmuggling offence for having significantly exceeded the foreseen exemption (50 cigars per traveller), placing them at the disposal of the Customs and Monopolies Agency Office for the issuing of the subsequent notice of dispute.

The activity carried out is part of the broader and more constant prevention system implemented along the border to protect the Union's interests and to safeguard economic operators from unfair competition from companies that introduce products to the market at lower prices.
