The State Police reported at liberty for possession of illegal explosive material – regulated by the Consolidated Law on Public Safety – and for the possession of the same material without having a regular license and in a careless manner – indicated in article 678 of the Penal Code – a 69-year-old originally from Nocera Inferiore (SA) but resident in Fino Mornasco (CO), with a police record for the same crime.

In the constant and widespread control of the territory carried out by the State Police, especially by the crews of the patrol cars located in various strategic points of the city, one of them yesterday morning, carrying out a checkpoint in the Montano Lucino area, stopped and checked a small car with the 69-year-old from Campania on board.

In addition to personal and car documents, the officers asked for an account of the contents of two large bags placed on the back seats of the car and subsequently of some boxes placed in the trunk, all containing a fair amount of fireworks and without having a plausible justification from the man.

The police officers, faced with such a quantity of explosive material, took extreme caution to secure the car and its occupant, also having personnel from the Administrative and Security Police Division, experts in this field, intervene on site.

Once it was established that part of the explosive material did not have the “CE” marking and that the entire load was illegally held and transported, the Administrative Police experts extended the inspection to the 69-year-old's home in Fino Mornasco, where further packages full of firecrackers were found in the garage and in a second garage in a nearby complex, where further explosive material was found.

Taken to the Police Headquarters, the 69-year-old was reported to the Judicial Authority and the almost 110 kg. gross of fireworks were seized., waiting for a team of bomb disposal experts from the State Police to intervene for disposal, as ordered by the Public Prosecutor.

The State Police, especially in this end-of-year period, in addition to intensifying checks for preventive purposes, it would like to remind you to pay maximum attention to respecting all the necessary precautions to prevent the occurrence of accidents resulting from the improper use of fireworks as well as illegal ones, first and foremost those without the “CE” mark, in addition to compliance with current legislation in light of the heavy criminal and administrative sanctions for those who sell them illegally.
