Bulgarograsso: Police crackdown on “illegal firecrackers”, clandestine laboratory found for the production of homemade and illegal paper bombs
The Como State Police, yesterday morning, has reported at large for possession of illegal explosive material – regulated by Law 895 of 1967 on provisions on weapons – and for the possession of the same material without having any authorization or license – punished instead by the Penal Code – a 20 year old of Calabrian origins, resident in Bulgarograsso (CO).
In order to combat both the manufacturing, possession, trade and finally the use of any category or artifact of illegal pyrotechnic devices, as well as the ever-widespread commercialization of fireworks, sold without the necessary sales license, the Como Police Chief Marco Calì, wanted to further intensify the already widespread control of the territory and any type of Judicial Police activity that leads to the fight against the phenomenon of illegality.
A 49-year-old woman of Calabrian origins, living with the boy, was also reported for failure to comply with the Consolidated Law on Public Safety, allegedly failing to repeat the report regarding the regular possession of a firearm and related ammunition. The investigative activity conducted by the experts of the Administrative and Security Police Division led to the discovery, in the countryside of Bulgarograsso (CO) owned by the two, of a real and completely illegal artisan laboratory, where real explosive devices were assembled.
The total amount of the seized material amounts to 104 artefacts of various sizes, a large cellophane bag containing approximately 8 kg of black gunpowder, 2 packs of fuses, 4 batteries of fireworks, 2 sticks, 3 paper bomb-type artefacts, 146 cardboard tubes of various sizes suitable for packaging explosive devices and the same number of plastic caps for closing them. On site, by virtue of the proven dangerousness of the explosive material found, the agents of the Bomb Squad of the Police Headquarters were called in Milano, who took delivery of the material, cataloguing it meticulously. The police also tested the potential of the artefacts by making one of them explode, after which, the two were taken to the police station and reported for the crimes they were responsible for.
The State Police, especially in this end-of-year period, in addition to intensifying checks for preventive purposes, would like to remind us to pay maximum attention to respecting all the necessary precautions to prevent the occurrence of accidents resulting from the improper use of fireworks as well as illegal ones, especially those without the "CE" mark, in addition to compliance with current legislation in light of the heavy criminal and administrative sanctions for those who sell them illegally.
