Como, Lario delivery operation: criminal group worth over 1 million euros a year dismantled, 5 arrests
The finance police of the Como Provincial Command concluded a wide-ranging investigation combating drug trafficking and dealing.
The elements acquired by the Mobile Nucleus of the Ponte Chiasso Group by 2022 to 2023, have allowed us to reveal a well-organized and branched criminal structure, orbiting in the Como area, which managed a flourishing drug trafficking between Italy and the Balkan peninsula.
The activities were started later to the arrest of a young Albanian drug dealer seen some give way doses of cocaine to a boy who had shortly before crossed the national border through the Ponte Chiasso border crossing.
To evade the relevant controls, the criminal group used Como bed & breakfasts as "operational" bases, rental cars and telephone lines registered to non-existent people; the organizational peculiarity of the association, unmasked by the military, lay precisely in its ability to continually adapt and innovate, with strategies that always responded to the new dynamics of the market.
Major clients included entrepreneurs, professionals and students from Como, supplied both at the workplace and at their respective homes (hence the name of the operation Lario delivery), which is why the drug dealers, when making deliveries, were well-groomed and well-dressed so as not to arouse suspicion.
Furthermore, the investigators were also surprised by the way in which the gang transferred the proceeds from the sale of drugs to Albania; in fact, periodically, the group's "surgeon" on duty transported large sums of cash on board scheduled buses headed towards the Balkans.
Overall, during the investigations the following were:
- arrested in flagrante delicto five subjects;
- reported further at large four suspects;
- kidnapped Euro 29.000,00, approximately 1.000 Swiss francs, half a kilogram of cocaine and a motorcycle;
- reported to the local Prefecture twenty-five substance abusers.
In parallel they will come reported to the Como Police Headquarters the owners of the accommodation facilities having failed to comply with the provisions regarding public safety and to the competent mobile telephone operators the Como dealer responsible for activating the utilities fictitiously registered to non-existent individuals.
The service activity is part of a broader and more constant prevention system implemented by the Guardia di Finanza at border crossings, to protect legality and for the combating the phenomenon of drug trafficking.
