Police of the State of Como, following an impressive effort to combat widespread crime, he reported and arrested for aggravated theft, resisting a public official, and unjustified possession of weapons – own or improper – outside one's home and unjustified possession of altered keys or lock picks, 5 subjects: 2 Cuban men aged 42 and 29, 2 Colombian men aged 32 and 41, as well as a Colombian woman aged 36, as part of an operation aimed at combating theft and damage to cars, almost always committed to the detriment of tourists.
The 3rd section of the Flying Squad of the Como Police Headquarters has started a dedicated investigative service, aboard service cars and motorcycle patrols, in the most central streets of the city of Como; they in fact noticed a car that was proceeding slowly, occasionally stopping near other parked vehicles.
When the Flying Squad officers saw the 32-year-old Colombian get out of the car, they began tailing him, immediately noticing the earpiece that allowed him to stay in contact with the other individuals, whom they reached shortly after in Piazza Volta, and with whom he approached the customers of the bars in the square in order to steal unattended goods.
Thanks to continuous tailing and on-site investigations, the officers identified the 29-year-old, the 42-year-old, the 36-year-old, and the 41-year-old on Viale Varese, intent on opening a parked car, from which they stole suitcases and backpacks, while the 32-year-old acted as a lookout, until the alarm sounded, triggering the intervention.
The officers, who promptly intervened, ordered the suspects to be stopped, but the individuals reacted violently, kicking and punching them to escape. Despite their resistance, the officers managed to subdue them and take them to the police station.
The Colombian woman, the 42-year-old Cuban man, and the 32-year-old Colombian man, who fled in their car, were intercepted on the A36 in the municipality of Bregnano (CO) by the Busto Arsizio Highway Police sub-section, following the initiation of GPS tracking since the car was a rental.
Upon arriving at the police station, the five individuals were reported and arrested for aggravated theft, aiding and abetting a public officer, and resisting arrest. The prosecutor on duty at the Como Public Prosecutor's Office was immediately notified, who ordered a summary hearing.
In particular, the 42-year-old Cuban and the 36-year-old Colombian were also charged with illegal possession of weapons, as they were in possession of burglary tools, while the 29-year-old Cuban was reported for possession of altered keys and lock picks, having already had a criminal record for this.
From the meticulous investigations carried out by officers from the 3rd Section of the Como Flying Squad, the following emerged: the 36-year-old Colombian woman was convicted of aggravated theft; the 42-year-old Cuban man was convicted of aggravated theft, receiving stolen goods, and illegal possession of weapons; and the 29-year-old man was sentenced to one year and 1 months for resisting a public official, robbery, and aggravating circumstances related to intentional homicide.
The latter was transferred to the Como "Bassone" prison to serve his sentence while awaiting the fast-track trial that will take place to decide the final sentence for the five criminals.
