The artist is also poet and actor. Attentive to large and small things, he is struck and transported by history and art (the capitals of the Cathedral of Monreale), by the remains of ancient civilizations (the Sumerians), by unexpected beauty. Inspiration can come from fractures in the ground, from the ribs and particular shapes of a rock (Peaks, Caves).
From all these details his creations come to life, through suggestion and personal elaboration. The of him is a multifaceted universe, made up of works in series, different but linked together by a subtle game of correspondence.
The works can be placed halfway between painting and sculpture, as in his pieces on lycra (Memory Nike of Samothrace, Daughter of the Blue) or in his paintings with glue and plaster, characterized by the element of the fold and mostly monochrome. And more dramatic monotypes in cold shades of blue and purple and light blue oils on paper (Piazza del Campo).
The world leaves its traces and Quinzi delicately collects them and transforms them as if they were treasures. The attentive observer may notice references toArt Brut by Jean Dubuffet.
Quinzi himself writes: “Without any warning, the things I encounter wake me up and leave me alone TRACE in me. This germinates over time, until - I am absent - a work is generated. Absent because it is imperative that I do not overlap, that I do not presumptuously suffocate what is about to be born.
In short, it allows something that I don't yet know to come into existence. This is the dynamic I experience, simple and, I confess, full of gratitude. As was the case with the capitals I encountered in the Monreale cathedral in Sicily, transfigured down to the final fabrics.
And so for all the works on display, which do not leave me, in some way they are and remain in me, indeed they were already there before, they were waiting for nothing else for me to recognize them. Reality is infinite and without asking permission it becomes present."
Un spontaneous creative process, therefore, but which is linked to long research into materials and techniques.
Biography:
Born on 27 May 1953, he starred in theaters in Milan and Northern Italy texts by Jean-Paul Sartre, Luca Doninelli and his poetic compositions.
He was lucky enough to spend years with an artist who passed on to him the knowledge acquired at the Academy of Florence and his experience in drawing and in the various painting and engraving techniques.
He has always been impressed by images that arise before him from early morning, after dreams: it is reality, a lot of it and too much of it, that erupts. Some of these are more accidents, they correspond to him, they bear his name. They then join hands and a work can be born as a grateful response to what he/she saw.
He experiments with different materials and techniques, including sculptural ones, always in search of shapes and colors that transfigure reality into evocative artefacts, the result of the implicit spousal union of the external world with the internal one. It is the attempt to penetrate the depth of the mystery of things, as far as possible and for as long as possible. He has exhibited both in Italy and abroad.
