Messina, presentation of the volume "Messina in 1780. Journey to a disappeared capital"

Messina, in the presence of the Councilor for Culture Enzo Caruso and an attentive and curious public, who flocked to the Hall of Flags of Palazzo Zanca, the volume by Luciano Giannone "Messina in 1780. Travel in a disappeared Capital" was presented yesterday; a narration, through an extraordinary 3D and color reconstruction, of Messina before the 1783 earthquake. Messina unknown, never seen, except through the now well-known prints and engravings made over time by travelers and painters who stayed in the city.

After greetings fromCouncilor Caruso and his introduction to the theme of the rediscovery of a wonderful city brought to the fore thanks to the careful and painstaking research of sources and the application of new technologies of "augmented reality”, spoke the architect. Mirella Vinci, Superintendent of BB.CC.AA. of Messina, and Pino Falzea, President of the Order of Architects, who expressed words of praise and appreciation for Giannone's work which opened new horizons to the research and architectural study of the disappeared Messina.

The volume was illustrated by the young architect and author Luciano Giannone, graduated in Architecture in Florence, with a thesis which is at the origin of the publication of the text, and who has dedicated years of study, passion and mastery in the application of modern technologies, to reconstruct the "Noble City of Messina” and return it to the people of Messina, beautiful and luxurious as history has handed it down to us in the stories and memories of travelers who passed through the city between 16th and 18th centuries.

Un virtual journey fascinate, through videos and images which they literally have captivated the audience, with interventions to close the meeting through a lively and enriching debate, in which the Art historian Grazia Musolino , Director of the Tosi Siragusa Regional Library.
