Messina, the portrait of Caravaggio at Palazzo Weigert

Messina, with the intention that it be exhibited in the headquarters of the Department of Culture, at Palazzo Weigert, the artist Alessandro Follo from Avellino donated his work depicting the portrait of Michelangelo Merisi known as Caravaggio. The painting, exhibited at the exhibition “Caravaggio. Portraits of the soul", set up during the conference “Caravaggio and the Caravaggesci in Messina”, recently held at Palazzo Zanca, was delivered to the Councilor for Culture Enzo Caruso by Alex Caminiti, the Mayor's expert for Contemporary Art on behalf of the artist.

“Thanking Councilor Caruso and the Municipality of Messina for the hospitality and availability demonstrated during the exhibition “Caravaggio the portraits of the soul” – declares Alessandro Follo in a note sent to the Councilor – I express the will and pleasure of donating the work entitled “the Portrait of Caravaggio” (oil on canvas 120×80 cm, 2021) to the city of Messina, as a Caravaggio city, so that be included in the collection of the Palace of the Department of Culture"
