Messina Film Festival: Cinema&Opera, the Jury will be composed of directors Fabio Mollo and Anne Riitta Ciccone and singer Leti Dafne

The jurors will choose the best short film among 15 works from Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Poland, France, Brazil and China. “Proud to have a particularly qualified jury, which will give a fundamental contribution to the growth of this event”, says the artistic director Ninni Panzera.

The new edition of the is becoming more and more defined Messina Film Festival – Cinema&Opera which will take place 30 7 from November to December at the Sala Laudamo and the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele.

The artistic director of the Festival, Ninni Panzera, announces the first novelty of the 2024 edition with the names that make up the Jury of this year, formed by the directors Fabio Mollo (who presides over it) and Anne Riitta Ciccone and from the opera and rap singer Let's Daphne.

"I am proud to have a particularly qualified jury, which will certainly make a fundamental contribution to the growth of this event. The MFF is part of the programming of the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in Messina, which this year will also host all the events of our program and which will be officially announced in the coming weeks", he declares Panzera.

More than 1400 works were received by the festival organization from January until the deadline (September 30th), coming from 88 countries around the world. Among these, the following were selected: 15 shorts from Italy, Spain, UK, Poland, France, Brazil and China, who will compete for the final prize which Best Short Film. This award will be dedicated to the memory of Emi Mammoliti, creator and historic collaborator of the Messina Film Festival who passed away prematurely a few months ago.

Another important novelty is the agreement defined with MyMovies, the most important national streaming platform, for the online broadcast at the same time as the short film competition festival. A web room will be recreated, open to anyone who wants to participate, with important visibility implications at a national level.

Fabio Mollo – Biography

He graduated in 2002 at the University of East London, and then graduated in Directing at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, making several short films, including In the dark (selected at the Venice Film Festival) and Giants (in Competition at the Berlinale, Best Short Film at the Turin Film Festival). He made his debut in 2013 with the South is nothing, selected in competition at the Berlinale (Generation).

In 2015 esce Vincent from Crosia, his first feature-length documentary, awarded at the Turin Film Festival and finalist at the Nastri d'Argento. Between 2015 and 2016 follows the director Paolo Sorrentino during the filming of the series The Young Pope, making a documentary for HBO and SKY entitled The Young Pope – a Tale of Filmmaking. In 2017 his second feature film is released, The father of Italy. In 2021 he is the director of Dog years, presented at the Rome International Film Festival – Alice nella Città.

In 2022 directs My Soul Summer, a musical film, again selected at the Rome International Film Festival – Alice nella Città. In 2023 he is the director of the film Born for you and the documentary Demigods.

Anne Riita Ciccone – Biography

Born in Helsinki to a Finnish mother and Sicilian father, she lives in Rome. Graduated in Philosophy, during her years of study she also carried out a long and patient apprenticeship in Theater and Cinema, at the same time she continued to deepen her preparation in writing and filming techniques.

After winning in 1996 the Solinas Award for the best subject and having received a special mention and then won the IDI Autori Nuovi Award in 1995 and in 1997, as a film director he made his debut with his first feature film "The Shamans" in 2000, followed by “Mary's Love”, winner of the “Golden Globe” as a Revelation Film in 2004; "Your next one" in 2009 presented at the Rome Film Festival. From 2010 she also specialized in 3D, creating the first Italian short film in 3D "Victims” presented at the Rome Film Festival and selected for the European Meliès d'Or Award for best fantasy short film. She then directed the world's first 3D live action feature film directed by a woman, “I'm endless like space”, selected as a Special Event during the “Giornate degli Autori” of the Venice Film Festival 2017.

"I'm infinite like space” is also a novel, published in Italy by the publishing house Il Foglio Letterario, written by her as a spin-off of the film and which was selected for the Strega Prize 2017; for the film he also won the “Best Director” Award at the Spoleto Festival 2017. He has written several screenplays for other directors, theatrical texts and collaborated in the writing of the documentary “Rua do Prior, 41” of her husband, also an author and director, Lorenzo d'Amico de Carvalho, with whom he also wrote the film directed by Lorenzo d'Amico De Carvalho, “The Good Years” released in theaters in 2022.

In 2022 Anne Riitta shoots the film “The immortals”, also written by her, presented at the Rome Film Festival on 26 October 2023, Freestyle section and released in theaters with Vision on 20 June 2024.

Leti Dafne – Biography

Letizia Sperzaga, stage name Leti Dafne, was an opera singer for 20 years, and debuted in many operatic roles.
Born in Cremona in 1974, graduated in opera singing at the Conservatory “A. Boito” in Parma, and graduated from the Institute of High Artistic Training in Parma. She attended the Academy of Scenic Arts for opera singers in Modena. She has taught opera and light singing in numerous schools and music academies. She is also a playwright, and has won numerous literary awards.

In 2017 the first experimental video clip is out: “RIP Callas”, an ironic song about the world of Opera. In 2018 the first EP is out “Pearls before swine” (giving life to the collaboration with the producer and arranger Egiuann with whom she still collaborates). Leti Dafne currently collaborates with the labels ED Music and Jaywork. Her video clips often touch on the subject of Culture and Art in Italy. Another topic that she often deals with in her songs is gender inequality, certainly from a female point of view, which is very rare in rap.

Also involved in outreach, he created a series of videos called “Works in 2 minutes” which briefly tell the plot of the Operas in rap form.
Il 1 ° April 2020 in the midst of the pandemic, his first music album entitled “Much more”. From July 2023 collaborate with Mattia Miller, violinist and historical friend, with whom he has always shared passions such as philosophy, kabbalah, spirituality, financial mentality and much more. A collaboration that began as a game and totally in friendship, but that instead turned out to be a perfect professional support, especially for live performances.
