Ancona: They steal credit cards to buy designer shoes, 30-year-old couple arrested

The Carabinieri of Fabriano, at the end of detailed investigations, have a South American couple (a 35 year old and a 37 year old), both residents of Lazio and with criminal records for similar crimes, were reported as being held responsible, in collaboration with each other, for theft by sleight of hand and improper use of payment instruments.

The investigation was triggered by the complaint sported a few days ago by a sixty year old of Fabriano, who had reported to the Carabinieri of the local station that unknown persons, in the morning, after having his wallet was taken away from inside their bag left unattended in the shopping cart, they had made, using the two stolen credit cards, three withdrawals at as many ATMs located in the city for a total of total of over €1.700 and further payments in various Fabriano shops, for the same amount.

The military first verified the presence of cameras in the places where withdrawals and payments were made, and were able to immediately identify the two foreign individuals. From the acquisition, viewing and analysis of the various video surveillance footage provided by the credit institutions and commercial establishments, the actions of the perpetrators of the theft were then reconstructed, who, between the aisles of the supermarket where the victim was busy shopping, they had distracted her with a pretext and then stolen her wallet with a lightning-fast gesture inside which, in addition to the payment cards, there was a piece of paper with the PINs for the cards written down. After the theft, the man also purchased a smartphone and three pairs of designer shoes, leaving indelible traces of his passage.

Once the videos were acquired and the faces of the perpetrators were extracted, they were compared with the mug shots in the archive and shared with all the Carabinieri commands in the area. Thanks to this synergy, the Jesi force has the couple was recognized, as they had already been reported in the past for similar facts. For further verification, the photos were shown to various local businesses, who recognized the two individuals without a shadow of a doubt.

To raise awareness among citizens to pay maximum attention in similar cases, last Saturday the commander of the Fabriano CC Station, Lieutenant Alesci, held at the theatre located in the rear part of the church of San Giuseppe Lavoratore a meeting, in order to illustrate the modus operandi through which these particular thefts are carried out in addition to the feared scams (in particular those carried out by fake Carabinieri), explaining to an audience of over 50 people the precautions to take to avoid falling into the trap of increasingly unscrupulous thieves and scammers.
