Ancona: Event “Science is a woman, female excellence in scientific research”
The Councillor for Equal Opportunities Orlando Latini will represent the Municipality of Ancona event Science is a woman, female excellence in scientific research, organized by the Laboratorio Culturale and Vista Mare Associations, dedicated to the role of women in scientific paths.
The appointment is for Saturday 22nd March at 17pm at the Teatrino di San Cosma.
In moderation Alberta Ciarmatori, will intervene Chiara Rivosecchi, agronomist and PhD student at the University La Sapienza of Rome and UnivPM (Precision Farming: When the Land Cultivates Data), the marine biologist and CNR grant holder Clare the Evangelist (Algae: new food of the future or food of our tradition? The discovery of the flora of Conero and its curiosities), Giovanna Salvoni, head of the Regional Blood Centre of the Marche Region (From virological research to humanitarian mission, A biologist's experience on the battlefields of former Yugoslavia).
The meeting will end with live music, guitar and voice, by Massimo Parisi e Stephen Spazzi: “What Women Say… and Sing”, songs that tell the story of women and their journey through society, from the 60s to the present day.
The event is free and open to all citizens without reservation.
“I warmly congratulate the organizers of this meeting who – says the commissioner Orlando Latini - not only does it reaffirm the important role of women in the Italian scientific panorama, but also, and above all, it opens up a perspective on the future, introducing us to the work of these young scientists who will be speaking at the meeting.
I thank them and I thank all those who have this issue at heart and promote the excellence of women's studies and activity in a field such as that STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), which is central and crucial to our contemporary era”.
“Today it is important to promote full and equal female participation in science, overcoming historical and cultural barriers that have often hindered thewomen's access to STEM careers" say the organizers, who also underline that statistically, at an international level, women and girls are only the 28% of engineering graduates and 40% of those graduated in computer science and computer science.
As far as the field of research is concerned, percentage of female researchers, is estimated around 33,3%.
"It is necessary - conclude - to give voice, space and visibility to young female scientists who are entering this fascinating field”.
