Fabriano: Online fraud, a 30-year-old repeat offender reported for aggravated fraud

The Carabinieri of Fabriano, following investigations, have a thirty-year-old from Campania, already known to the police for similar crimes, was reported for aggravated fraud. The investigation arose from complaint of a forty-year-old from Fabriano which, tempted by the advertisement for the sale of two headlights for his car on a well-known e-commerce site at a seemingly very advantageous price, had made a bank transfer of 180 Euros without ever receiving the goods. By monitoring the seller's account, it was then possible to trace his identity. At present, commercial transactions carried out from the account registered to the man are being verified to identify any further scams carried out using the same system.

The activity carried out by the military is not occasional but is part of a broader strategy to combat fraud against the elderly and vulnerable people implemented by the Fabriano force, which provides, in addition to an effective investigative response to the occurrence of similar episodes, also “door to door” awareness campaigns. For example, The Station Commander, Lieutenant CS Giuseppe Alesci, held a meeting with an audience of 60 citizens, most of them elderly, gathering them in the theatre hall of the Church of the Holy Family to warn them of the most recent deception techniques (from that of the fake policeman to spoofing), as well as the infinite pitfalls that online transactions can present.
