Two years. That’s the time. Long, agonizing, trying. Stalking, threats, harassment. A woman at the end of her strength and a man becomes increasingly aggressive and pushy. Yet everything comes from a positive feeling, from the prospect of something beautiful.

The man, a 40 year old from Ovada, he falls in love with a waitress much younger than him, tries to get to know her, contacts her on social networks, gets her phone number. Initially the situation is normal, a simple approach of “love in the age of technology”, to paraphrase Gabriel García Márquez, with a bit of nostalgia and despair.

Then suddenly everything changes, the phone calls become continuous and insistent. Although the girl tries not to trust him, the man dispenses compliments, compliments, asks her to see each other, to go out together. The girl is exasperated, the courtship is going too far and the evasive answers have no effect.

The attention is increasingly excessive, to the phone calls and messages are added also apparently pleasant gestures, such as the home delivery of flowers and gifts, even expensive ones. The girl's refusal then becomes firmer, she interrupts all contact. The man, however, does not give up and, instead of accepting it, reacts by becoming aggressive.

And we arrive at late Sunday evening, when the 40-year-old shows up at the place where the girl works as a waitress. The limit has been exceeded and certain roads risk being a one-way street. The man first turns to the owner of the restaurant, from whom he demands payment of a sum of money to settle an alleged debt that the girl has towards him.

He ends up threatening the owner of the place, then turns his aggression towards the young woman he is infatuated with. The situation degenerates. But luckily someone calls 112. With a sigh of relief for the victims of the attack, the blue lights of the flashing lights reverberate on the internal walls of the restaurant and two Carabinieri Gazelles appear beyond the windows.

The patrols reach the man, calm him down and take him to the barracks. The parties and witnesses are heard, the Carabinieri investigate to reconstruct the story, they understand that there is much more than an alleged unpaid debt, the previous conduct emerges, the two years of courtship taken well beyond what was legal, the persecutory acts to which the girl was subjected by her admirer, up to the epilogue of that evening, the decisive intervention of the Carabinieri and the arrest of the stalker, accompanied to prison in Alessandria.

The girl is still shocked, but perhaps this time the tears are no longer of fear but of liberation. Finally.
