The monumental cemetery of Alessandria, thanks to the various cultural valorization initiatives, comes inserted in“Atlas of Italian cemeteries”.

The monumental cemetery of Alessandria was included in the current edition of the "Atlas of Italian Cemeteries" presented at the "TANEXPO" trade fair which took place in Bologna from 4 to 6 April; the publication is one of the objectives established in the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2016 between Utilitalia-SEFIT (Italian public funeral services) and Ministry of Culture (at the time it was called the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism), aimed at identifying shared actions for tourist promotion and cultural valorisation of monumental cemeteries and places of memory.

For each cemetery there is one card which includes information on opening hours, geographical position, curiosities, useful addresses, a brief description of the site, a selection of monuments and tombs of particular historical-artistic importance, also indicated on the map, and a selection of monuments and places in the city that have links to those identified within the cemetery.

This inclusion is a good course result achieved thanks to the cultural valorization initiatives conducted on the city cemetery site according to the Collaboration Agreement signed between the Municipality of Alessandria and the Alessandria Section of Italia Nostra APS, to which the company “Gestioni Cimiteriali srl” which manages municipal cemetery services belongs.

There are eight places of the Monumental Cemetery of Alessandria published and they refer to the tombs of well-known families and city figures: composer and musician Pietro Abbà Cornaglia in connection with Palazzo Cuttica in Cassine, home of the “Antonio Vivaldi” Conservatory; there Borsalino family in relation to the “Borsalino Museum”; the artist Rodolfo Gambini, whose tomb was adorned with a statue of the sculptor Attilio Strada, author of the monument erected in memory of pilot Swiss motorist Carlo Pedrazzini located in via Pistoia; the industrialist Angelo Verzetti whose portrait is located in the picture gallery of the “SS. Antonio e Biagio e Cesare Arrigo ”, a structure of which he was a benefactor; The Patriot Risorgimento Andrea Vochieri in connection with the Citadel where his detention cell is located; there Guerci family in relation to the tunnel of the same name located between via San Giacomo della Vittoria and via San Lorenzo; there Civaglieri family Inviziati Sappa, in memory of Carlo Inviziati, the first patron of the well-known sculptor Carlo Caniggia from Alessandria, author of the bas-relief depicting “Alessandria that rewards the Fine Arts” located in the Council Hall of the Town Hall; finally the Valizone family in relation to the city Cathedral.

TTL National team for the promotion of Italian cemeteries Utilitalia-Sefit and Head of Promotion and Promotion of Cemeteries in Turin who, for the presentation of the publication, dealt with the topic: "The art , Story of cemeteries as a useful potential for all realities"; in this context the topic “Italian cemetery heritage brought to light” touching on sociological, anthropological, artistic, economic and regulatory aspects with the aim of posing new perspectives on the relationships between communities and cemeteries, the latter being a real "heritage" of reference; a theme that coincides with the objectives promoted for the aforementioned work to enhance the monumental cemetery of Alessandria.
