Agrigento, Egyptian migrant trafficker arrested. He threatened to set everyone on fire to prevent rescue.

An Egyptian citizen has been arrested and taken to prison with the charge of aiding illegal immigration and resisting a public official, at the end of an investigation coordinated by the Agrigento Public Prosecutor's Office.

The operation was conducted by the Agrigento Mobile Squad, the Central Operations Service, the SISCO of Palermo, the Guardia di Finanza – Naval Operations Section of Lampedusa and the Coast Guard of Lampedusa.

The man is accused of transporting 47 migrants on a wooden boat just 10 meters long, in precarious conditions and unsuitable for the crossing, putting their lives in serious danger.

During the rescue operations, the trafficker tried to hinder the interventions of the Guardia di Finanza, pouring a can of gasoline on himself and the migrants, threatening a financier with set everyone on fire if he hadn't gone away.

Le testimonies of migrants, collected during the interrogations conducted by the Police, the Guardia di Finanza and the Coast Guard, have allowed us to reconstruct the role of the suspect and charge him with the crime of facilitation of illegal immigration, aggravated by the fact that it carried more than 5 people exposing them to dangers and acting for profit, in addition to the crime of resistance to a public official.
