Turin meets Syria in the name of culture and heritage to be protected. From yesterday, 4 July 2023 to XNUMX October, the Royal Museums of Turin and its gardens will host 'The Damascus Rose. From Syria to Turin', exhibitions, screenings, concerts and meetings to promote the role and importance of the Syrian cultural heritage in the Mediterranean basin.
To inaugurate the event, organized with the Syria Trust for Development and the Santagata Foundation for the Economy of Culture, are the photographic exhibition on one of the symbolic Syrian products, the flower that has also been growing in the Royal Gardens for a few months, and the artistic installation 'Floral Tapestry of Craftmanship' which pays homage to the artisanal activities of the country which has seen the practices and crafts linked to the Damascus Rose in the village of Al-Mrah inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage of Humanity list.
Among the events, the screening of the documentary 'The Oath of Cyriac', the meeting with the historian and writer Sami Moubayed, the concert 'An ode to the Rose' directed by maestro Missak Baghboudarian, director of the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra, and the talk 'Cultural heritage: a bridge for peace'.
"It's a project – underline the representatives of the Syria Trust for Development – inspired by the cultural and living heritage, which speaks of a people, of its values. For us, culture and our heritage are a resource for our communities and for socio-economic development and today we are here to showcase the vital role of this heritage and to help safeguard Syria's cultural heritage and its communities.".
