Campobasso, public WiFi arrives throughout the city.
At the Council Hall of Palazzo San Giorgio a Campobasso, the mayor of Campobasso, Roberto Gravina, the mayor of the Municipality of Ripalimosani, Marco Giampaolo, the engineer Francesco Amorosa, of the Afa Systems company, and Angelo Palladino, project manager (RUP), held a press conference for the presentation of the implementation of the Urban Area Wi-Fi project.
"Wi-Fi Urban Area it is a confederated network of public places where citizens will be able to use the Internet connectivity service for free. – explained the mayor of Campobasso, Roberto Gravina – Created with funding from the Molise Region with the Operational Program of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF), it provides a total of 45 access points distributed in the municipal territories of Campobasso, Ferrazzano and Ripalimosani, the Municipalities which, with the memorandum of understanding of 21.07.2017, constituted the Urban Area of Campobasso.
The memorandum of understanding
Precisely in signing that memorandum of understanding – explained Gravina – the Municipalities of Ferrazzano and Ripalimosani recognized the Municipality of Campobasso as the lead body, which, therefore, also represented the contracting authority for the construction works. The Urban Area Wi-Fi project is the result of the joint desire of the municipalities of the Urban Area to focus together on the implementation of integrated technological solutions for the benefit of communities, on the model of intelligent cities or smart cities. The project has thus led to the creation of an aggregating network infrastructure that guarantees the integrated management of public places where citizens will be able to use the Internet connectivity service for free."
45 hotspots across the city
As specified by Angelo Palladino, RUP, the project involved the creation of individual technological systems, HotSpots, positioned within the territory of the Urban Area
“A design solution – added Mayor Gravina – which meets the needs of optimizing construction costs, facilitates access to the service by citizens, who will be able to use the service by equipping themselves solely with a network device with a wireless interface, and finally guarantees the nomadic use of the service, which can be used in particular by those present in the area for tourism purposes.”
“With reference to the user identification system, a federated approach is adopted which will allow registered subjects to use the Internet access service from any HotSpot installed in the Urban Area. – explained the technicians – User registration will take place automatically. The delivery of the password with certain identification of the requesting party will be guaranteed through the use of the mobile short message service."
Internet and QR code
In various areas of the city there will therefore soon be plates indicating the possibility of accessing the Urban Area Wi-Fi service, and which will have a QR code as their identifier. Each area will also present a QR code with a different color, which will send specific information about the place you are in.
To use the Service, citizens must connect their device to the network "Wi-Fi Urban Area”. Depending on where he will be located, he will be greeted by specifics welcome pages. To start browsing the Internet and use other services you need create the username, following the instructions after clicking on the “REGISTER” button.
If you are already a WiFi Italia or Eduroam user, you will be automatically recognized and you will be able to browse without registering.
