The first 400 migrants left the Lampedusa hotspot last night

They left yesterday evening, 26 April 2023, from the Lampedusa IP hotspotrimi 400 migrants. The transfers will continue today and tomorrow - Friday 28 April 2023 - and will concern another 2500 migrants. These operations are carried out thanks to the collaboration of the Navy, the Air Force, the Financial Police and the Port Authority.

The disembarkation operations of the 75 migrants from the Geo Barents, the Doctors Without Borders search and rescue ship, have just begun arrived this morning at the port of NapoIi.
The disembarkation from the Geo Barents began just before 9am, with 75 migrants on board who had been rescued from a boat adrift in the waters off the coast of Libya four days ago. The Doctors Without Borders search and rescue ship landed at 7,15 am at the port of Naples, where preparatory operations for the disembarkation immediately began.
Waiting for the migrants, among others, are also the staff of the Red Cross, the USCA of ASL Napoli 1, the Civil Protection, the social services of the Municipality of Naples and Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency. The migrants rescued at sea will be transferred to the former Covid hospital in Ponticelli pending placement in other locations in the coming days.

Also among the 75 on board the Geo Barents 35 unaccompanied minors aged between 13 and 17.
The first to get off were women and children.

Over the next twenty days, 850 new first reception places will be activated for a structural solution that will reduce migratory pressure on the island of Lampedusa and eastern Sicily.
