A was conductedjoint operation between the Port Authority of Messina and the Carabinieri Company of Taormina, aimed at the profiles of competence to protection of maritime state property, the environment and the protection of human life at sea, while activating an action aimed at preventing and combating common crimes.
The staff of the Carabinieri and Coast Guard, operated within the Oriented Nature Reserve, a destination for numerous tourists and swimmers who frequent the beaches, the surrounding waters and the natural and landscape beauties that surround it.
In the area there are many commercial activities, which offer various services aimed at bathing with equipped beaches and lidos, excursions with boats and jet skis for rent and scuba diving activities, in addition to traditional Sicilian catering.
The soldiers who intervened proceeded to carry it out investigations aimed at the abusive use of state-owned maritime areas, occupied without any concession with the placement of umbrellas and posters indicating excursion services as well as checks on the lifeguard service and the safety equipment of the establishments.
In conjunction with the checks carried out on the beach, Coast Guard patrol boats checked certifications and on-board equipment aimed at navigation safety aspects.
As a result of the activity, 2 people were reported on the loose for illegal occupation of state property and for receiving archaeological finds and marine fossils. Furthermore, 3 administrative reports were issued for lack of safety equipment. to a lido and for having exceeded the maximum number of passengers on board rental units.
In total they were high fines of around 2000 euros, as well as n.2 criminal seizures, of materials constituting crimes, both for illegal occupation and for the trafficking of archaeological finds.
In particular, the Carabinieri of the Taormina Company operated with the support of the Carabinieri Section for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Syracuse, by ascertaining and carrying out census activities, securing and recovering the finds found, located in a glass case inside an operating company, in the immediate vicinity of the island.
The controls will be implemented in synergy between the two Commands, also in view of the most intense bathing period, where the number of tourists will grow exponentially, with the aim of guaranteeing and protecting citizens.
