The crossing was followed by the Italian Embassy in Egypt, which informs that the citizens are currently traveling towards Cairo. Once you arrive in the capital, a flight to Italy is scheduled. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Hon. Antonio Tajani, released a statement confirming that "With today's transit from Rafah there are 17 people including Italian citizens, dual Italian-Palestinian citizens and Palestinian family members who we have secured. Even today it is a positive result, given that among these people there are two young pregnant women, and a particularly fragile elderly lady"
“We continue to follow closely, through the Crisis Unit, the Embassy in Cairo and the Consulate General in Jerusalem, the people still present in the Strip, including two compatriots who work for the International Red Cross and the Nations United, and who in recent days have decided to remain in Gaza to continue helping people in need" the foreign minister added and concluded.
Minister Antonio Tajani, recently, he had declared that there were ongoing negotiations in Cairo in collaboration with USA, the UN, Egypt and Israel, aimed at getting foreign citizens out of the Gaza Strip. “De-escalation, at this moment, is difficult but diplomacy is always at work”, the minister had commented.
