Attack on Sigfrido Ranucci: An explosion destroys the journalist and his daughter's car in Pomezia. Mattarella: "Severe condemnation for this grave act."
An attack aimed at intimidation has struck Sigfrido Ranucci, host of Report, last night in front of his home in Pomezia. A crude explosive device, containing about a kilo of explosives, exploded near the cars of the journalist and his daughter, causing significant damage to the vehicles and potentially to the adjacent house.
Detonated explosive device, investigation underway
According to the initial reconstructions of the Carabinieri, the explosive was not activated remotely or with a timer: it was apparently left on site with the fuse already lit between two vases outside the villaWitnesses reportedly saw a hooded man running away immediately after the explosion. Investigators are searching for surveillance cameras in the area to reconstruct exactly how the device was placed.

Ranucci's story: "A worrying leap in quality."
“I heard a tremendous bang, it was 10:17 PM. The Carabinieri also heard it thanks to recordings from some people in the area,” Ranucci said. The host confirmed that he had switched to an armored car as a security measure, a measure already in place since 2014, when he was placed under protection following mafia threats.
Ranucci also has recalled the threats received in recent times, from the discovery of two P38 bullets outside the house to the shadowing documented by the escort. “I have always informed the judicial authorities and the State has always been close to me”, he said, stressing that what happened represents “a worrying leap in quality because the attack took place right in front of the house.”
Extensive damage and risk to the family
A video published on the social channels of Report show the journalist's car was completely destroyed and his daughter's car was damaged. According to the broadcast, the power of the explosion “he could have killed anyone who happened to be passing by at that moment”. The daughter had parked the car just twenty minutes before the explosion, while Ranucci's car had been there since the day before.
Giorgio Mottola, correspondent of Report, he told Rai Radio1: “Siegfried had been home for ten minutes, after days of working away, so it is very likely that someone was monitoring him and was waiting.”.
Status of investigations
They are investigating the matter the prosecutors of the Anti-Mafia of Rome. The police are analyzing the area in search of elements useful for identifying the person responsible and clarifying whether it was a warning linked to Ranucci's journalistic work or to other motivations.
The journalist, although deeply concerned for the safety of the family, underlined: “We still don't know where the threat comes from and whether it's a warning of something to come, but the state and its institutions are close to us.”
In relation to the event, the Prime Minister Meloni he had a note released by Palazzo Chigi: “Freedom and independence of information are essential values of our democracies, which we will continue to defend.”, while the President Mattarella expresses his closeness to the journalist and his family, urging a “severe condemnation for the serious act”.
