Venice, crackdown on crime: police control services intensified.

The Venice Police Headquarters, in line with the directives given by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security by the Prefect of Venice, in agreement with the Police Commissioner, in recent weeks has set up targeted control services in the centre of Venice, in particular in Cannaregio area, which in recent times had become the scene of various episodes of petty crime, such as to generate a growing climate of concern among citizens.

Therefore, the State Police immediately took action in this sense by arranging an intensification of checks in the area, by personnel from the San Marco police station, the police squad and the Flying Squad, in order to give a prompt response to citizens, and to increase the level of safety not only real, but also perceived.

Over the course of the outgoing weeks, first of all, they were prepared targeted control services in the aforementioned neighborhood, together with the surrounding areas, by personnel of the local Flying Squad, which will continue in the coming days and whose objective remains that of monitoring and, if necessary, intervening in order to combat drug dealing or other types of crime.

As regards the control of the territory by personnel of the Police Headquarters Flying Squad, in recent days the police have intervened in the aforementioned area on two separate occasions.

First, on August 18, the police intervened at a apartment in a state of abandonment, whose owner had requested the intervention of the State Police, reporting that, during an inspection carried out by the same at the property, she had found the entrance door open. Upon completion of the inspection, the operators who intervened on site found a Tunisian citizen – burdened by police reports for drug-related crimes and invasion of land and buildings – and the signs of consumption of the narcotic substance to which it was therefore applied the size of the Mandatory Street Sheet from the city of Venice by the Police Chief.

On another occasion, however, the Volanti always intervened in Cannaregio giving execution of a European arrest warrant against a citizen of Chinese nationality, who had been reported for financial crimes committed in his hometown, and was therefore arrested and taken to the Venice prison.

Finally, the UPGSP Police officers intervened in the last few days in the Cannaregio area, stopping a foreign citizen suspected of drug dealing, against whom, pending the conclusion of the criminal proceedings against him, the Police Chief of Venice has also in this case applied the Measurement of the Street Sheet Required by the city.

On the front of prevention measures and the fight against irregular immigration, however, another important result was achieved in recent days, when, during A targeted check carried out by the Venice Carabinieri Company in conjunction with the IV Carabinieri Battalion of Veneto, 3 foreign citizens were tracked down of Tunisian origins within a property in the Castello area state property used by the Navy.

On this occasion, thanks to the prompt action of the Anti-Crime Office of the Venice Police Headquarters, one of the subjects, who was burdened by numerous police records for crimes of home burglary, invasion of land and buildings and possession and use of narcotic substances, having recognized his social danger, a warning was issued FVO from the city of Venice for a duration of 3 years.

For another individual, also a Tunisian citizen who accompanied him, a further mandatory FVO valid for one year was issued by the Police Chief of Venice.

For third foreign citizen traced, however, thanks to the prompt activity carried out by the Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters, following the outcome of all the necessary investigations, an expulsion order from the national territory was ordered since the same person, who had numerous criminal records against him penalties, also appeared to be irregular on the national territory.

The subject, therefore, was accompanied yesterday by the Carabinieri of Venice to the Caltanissetta Repatriation Center, where he will remain there waiting to be repatriated to his country of origin.

An important result, which adds to the aforementioned 4 Mandatory Expulsion Orders Issued by the Police Chief of Venice in Just Two Weeks (which are added to as many as 26 FVO. issued by early summer by the State Police, compared to the 7 issued in the same period the previous year.) and which represent an important first signal that the State Police, together with the other Law Enforcement Agencies of the Province, wants to transmit to the citizens of Venice.

This targeted strategy to combat petty crime, through not only the strengthening of controls by the Police, engaged daily in the control of the territory, but also through the provision of dedicated services, also thanks to the help of the Flying Squad and plainclothes personnel, in fact, it wants to give a prompt response to the security needs of the neighborhood.
