The State Police remembered the State Police Agent Antonino Copia, "Victim of Duty", who died during a general prevention and public rescue service on 28 April 2009, at the age of 27.

On the morning of Monday 29 April, in the presence of the Prefect of Venice, Darco Pellos, together with the Police Commissioner of Venice, Gaetano Bonaccorso, the Councillor for Security of the Municipality of Venice, Elisabetta Pesce and the highest local Authorities on the fifteenth anniversary of his death, the State Police remembered the State Police Agent Antonino Copia, "Victim of Duty", who died during a general prevention and public rescue service on 28 April 2009, at the age of 27.
The Venice Police Headquarters wanted to pay homage to him with a short ceremony at the commemorative stone located at the site of the accident in Venice Mestre, in Viale San Marco at the foot of the “Ponte Europa”, where a floral tribute was placed by the Chief of Police.
This was followed by the blessing of the memorial stone by the Chaplain of the State Police, Father Piero Rizza, which was attended by numerous colleagues from the Venice Police Headquarters Section and State Police personnel.
Officer Copia, the driver of the patrol car, with commendable operational determination and contempt for danger, did not hesitate, together with the Patrol Leader, to intervene to assist another crew in difficulty who were proceeding to check and stop individuals who were found to be armed and who were attempting to escape.
The patrol car, due to adverse weather conditions caused by heavy rain, left the road at the foot of the Europa Bridge in Venice-Mestre and crashed heavily into a tree at the edge of the road.
Following the accident, Agent Copia suffered very serious injuries which caused his death.
At the end of the ceremony, the Police Chief of Venice, Gaetano Bonaccorso, wanted to address an affectionate thought to the Copy Agent's family, friends and colleagues remembering his commitment, dedication and high sense of duty made to the extreme sacrifice of his life.
