Portogruaro (VE). Violence in hospitals, Zaia: “It’s a war bulletin”

Yet another act of violence against doctors. He is pushed to the ground by a drug addict

Portogruaro (VE). Violence in hospitals, Zaia: “It’s a war bulletin”.

“Not a day goes by now without an incident being recordedaggression to our healthcare personnel. It has become a war bulletin, to which one must respond with firmness and certainty of punishment towards those who commit crimes. It is no longer tolerable that our doctors, nurses, health workers are victims of aggression in hospitals or in the facilities where they provide services, with dedication and professionalism, to care for and assist those in difficulty".

With these words the president of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, stigmatizes the umpteenth episode of aggression that occurred yesterday evening against a doctor of the continuity of care at the Portogruaro (VE) office.

“Once again – explains the governor – the doctor found himself a victim of a drug addict, who did not hesitate to fly into a rage when the doctor was unable to prescribe the drugs he wanted. The attacker pushed the doctor to the ground, who suffered a bruise to the shoulder. Fortunately, the Carabinieri, to whom I extend my thanks, arrived immediately and took charge of the man. In expressing my closeness to our professional - to whom I express the gratitude of the Veneto Region for the work he has done in the service of the community - I hope that the attacker does not get away with it. We will continue to Strengthen the safety of health facilities, with the strengthening of control measures and specific training of operators for the management of risky situations, as well as collaboration with law enforcement. We will implement the presence of surveillance in the Emergency Departments and in the areas considered most exposed, but it is unthinkable that our health facilities become military garrisons.

I hope that the new regulations, recently approved by Parliament, which recognize the seriousness and peculiarity of attacks on staff working in our hospitals, will be rigorously applied. Who attacks a health worker it's not just committing a crime, is undermining one of the fundamental pillars of our healthcare system and assistance. Our white coats cannot feel alone”.
