As part of the strengthening of prevention and territorial control services at provincial level, the Venice State Police continues its activity aimed at combating crime phenomena throughout the territory of the Metropolitan City.
In the context of the adoption of strategies aimed at countering criminal activities on the mainland, the Police Chief of Venice, thanks to the activity carried out by the Anti-Crime Police Division, in line with the directives of the Department of Public Security and the Ministry of the Interior, has adopted 7 “DASPO WILLY” measures against as many foreign citizens who, according to the investigative findings, were involved in various capacities in the violent brawl that broke out between around fifty people last April 4 in Mestre.
On that occasion, the Flying Squad operators of the Venice Police Headquarters, who intervened on the scene, acquired the statements of the witnesses.

Mestre (Venezia), la Polizia di Stato dispone 7 Daspo "Willy" nei confronti di altrettanti cittadini stranieri

The subsequent investigative activity of the local Flying Squad allowed them to identify some of those responsible, all domiciled in the Municipality of Venice, and to trace the motives behind the episode, which took place in a central area of Mestre.
The Police Chief of Venice, therefore, has ordered the aforementioned measures against the individuals involved in order to prevent the repetition of similar serious episodes, imposing a 3-YEAR ban on the recipients from accessing and staying in the immediate vicinity of public premises within the quadrilateral of Via Piave.

The Daspo Willy is a personal prevention measure under the jurisdiction of the Police Chief, which falls into the category of "bans on access to urban areas", the discipline of which was strengthened in December 2020, after the tragic events that led to the murder of twenty-two-year-old Willy Monteiro in Colleferro (Rome).

This decree provides that, with regard to persons reported in the last 3 years for crimes committed during serious disturbances in public establishments or in places of public entertainment or in the immediate vicinity of the same, if the conduct could result in a danger to safety, the Police Chief may prohibit them from accessing said areas.
Violation of the prohibitions and provisions imposed by the Daspo Willy is punishable by imprisonment from 1 to 3 years and a fine from 10.000 to 24.000 Euros.
