Vicenza: ethnic gathering places, bars and shops monitored to combat widespread crime.

During the afternoon yesterday, in Vicenza, a targeted extraordinary control of the territory was implemented to combat widespread crime in the city areas that were the subject of reports and complaints.

The activity concerned, in particular, Via Gorizia, the area of the SVT bus station, Campo Marzo, Piazzale Bologna, the Giardini Salvi, Corso Santi Felice e Fortunato and Viale San Lazzaro.

The service was attended by Flying squads and the Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters, the Railway Police of Vicenza, the Crime Prevention Unit of Padua and the Local Police of Vicenza.

152 people were checked, of which 69 were foreigners and 51 had criminal and/or police records, 7 vehicles, 7 public establishments (bars, betting shops, ethnic shops).

Particular attention was paid to some public establishments and ethnic shops and city areas that have been reported by the Municipality and various residents of the area.

The results of the check are currently being examined by the competent offices of the Police Headquarters.

In Campo Marzo (Viale Eretenio side) A stolen PEUGEOT car was found in Milano a few days ago. The vehicle was recovered and returned to its rightful owner. The Scientific Police carried out accurate surveys in order to search inside the passenger compartment for fingerprints that could trace the perpetrator of the theft.

In Corso Santi Felice e Fortunato (corner of Piazzale Giusti) a passing car was checked, the driver of which, when asked to show his driving licence, declared that he was unable to find it. For this reason, the Police decided to carry out a more in-depth check, inviting the man to come out of the cockpit. In doing so, the driver opened the door and the officers noticed, in the side glove compartment, the presence of a casing containing white powder. The outcome of subsequent tests turned out to be a type of narcotic substance cocaine per grams 0,12. The substance was seized while the man was accompanied to the police station for subsequent investigations which also showed that his driving license had expired several months ago.

At the end of the activity he was administratively sanctioned for personal use of narcotic substances and driving with an expired license.
