Arezzo, the Municipal Police draws up the annual report of the balance of the activities carried out

Thanks to the deputy commander, a deputy commander, 5 inspectors and 77 agents in the report we find data on fines, road accidents and crime reports

San Sebastiano (Arezzo), the patron saint of the municipal police, is celebrated every January 20th with a traditional religious ceremony. Commander Aldo Poponcini instead chose the day before for the equally traditional report of the activities carried out in the year just ended.
“2021 – Poponcini specified – was difficult and characterized by controls implemented to repress behavior that did not comply with anti-Covid regulations, for which 129 reports were issued. But these are just a part of the amount of work that we are called to do every day. And we do everything in the name of transparency: the doors of the command are always open, the opening of the offices is scheduled both in the morning and in the afternoon, to facilitate users, our headquarters is free of architectural barriers, twelve months The service charter was launched ago, an instrument with which citizens came into more direct contact with us. Furthermore, both e-mails remain active 365 days a year segreteriapm@comune.arezzo.it, policelocale.comunearezzo@postacert.toscana.it, comune.arezzo@postacert.toscana.it both the operations center 0575906667. During 2021, the phone was picked up 47.139 times, plus a further 14.478 requests for intervention were taken care of and therefore also in 2021 the checks carried out by patrols in the area well exceed 50.000. I can confirm that we will continue to conform to this style: in the 171st year since its foundation, the municipal police will always guarantee maximum assistance and availability, entering a context of openness to citizenship, with conduct oriented towards respect for people, with a commander Arezzo for the Arezzo people".
“We have great ambitions – underlined the mayor Alessandro Ghinelli – and we intend to implement them: they concern both the services offered, the instrumental equipment and the professionalism of the agents. Without forgetting the numerical strength of the police force itself: we could define this goal as our 'one hundred quota', that is, the right ratio with the number of inhabitants of Arezzo. I cannot help but thank everyone, starting from the commander, for the effort made, always on the field, in synergy with the other law enforcement agencies and commended by the prefecture itself. Work also began in 2021 on the new headquarters which will be more central and therefore better inserted into the urban context. On Piazza della Badia and more generally on the nightlife chapter, I believe that we should make a combined reflection between the behavior of those who drink in excess, those who serve glasses and the guarantee of those who want to have fun correctly and demonstrate a healthy desire to live and the sacrosanct right of residents to tranquility and tranquility. We need balanced measures that take into account all these aspects and also deeper social and pedagogical problems, which involve families and schools. Regarding the swimming pool controversy, I can only add that I did not hesitate to act as soon as I received certainty from the health authority of the risk of an increase in infections resulting from the manager's behavior. Unfortunately I am told that the swimming pool is still open, in defiance of the legislation and, at this point, of my order: a development that may lead to the contestation of article 650 of the penal code, if not of more serious crimes. And once the judiciary is involved, I believe that the prospect the plant will face is a much more prolonged closure following seizure."
As of 31 December 2021, the municipal police has, in addition to the commander, a deputy commander, a deputy commissioner, 5 inspectors and 77 agents. Then there are 2 administrative employees. Here is the vehicle allocation: 9 motorbikes, 22 cars, 2 accident prevention vans, one anti-degradation and one for road transport control. Overall they traveled something like 2021 kilometers in 407.519, 10 times around the world.
As far as data is concerned, let's start with fines. The confirmed violations were 64.619 compared to 55.417 in 2020 of which: irregular stops 28.058 (there were 19.106), dangerous speed 237 (there were 202), speed cameras and telelasers 11.192 (there were 11.258), overtaking not allowed 48 (there were 47), failure to communicate license data 848 (there were 597), seat belts not connected 421 (there were 466), failure to inspect 631 (there were 130), lack of RCA insurance 170 (there were 204), use of mobile phones 470 (there were 279), 354 (there were 350) ran a red light, 20 (there were 10 ) did not respect the minimum safety distance. Even non-use of a helmet results in 5 sanctions, compared to 6 in 2020. Prohibited circulation in restricted traffic areas continues to attract minutes: 20.687 even if the comparison with 2020 shows a minus of 598. Among the additional sanctions we mention 312 (there were 361 ) vehicles removed, 196 (there were 201) seized, 49 (there were 75) and 79 (there were 44) licenses and registration documents withdrawn respectively, 18.733 (there were 15.664) license points deducted.
Road accidents are always a very delicate chapter. The officers detected 639 (there were 526) accidents, 322 (there were 251) with injuries and 317 (there were 275) without. Unfortunately, three (there were 2) fatalities and 6 (there were 2) those with a reserved prognosis. Black days for claims are those at the beginning of the week, then the curve bends downwards on Wednesday and proceeds with a new surge on Thursday and Friday, when the distraction rate evidently rises. Saturday and Sunday are quieter days. The data remains in line with what was recorded in 2020. If we look at the months, black jersey goes to September followed closely by November, 67 to 65, while it dropped significantly, even by a third, in the first months up to April. The semi-lockdown from the red/orange zone certainly had an influence, with even the closure of schools for a certain period, experienced in the first part of 2021 and the progressive restart of the second half. The head-on collision is the most typical followed by the equally "classic" rear-end collision, 158 to 117. But there are quite a few people who go off the road, 77, and the data on pedestrians hit is of concern: 45. Roads most involved, it is not a surprise , the two regional ones 71 and 73 which significantly separate the rest of the municipal road system. The “worst” time to get in the car is between 17pm and 19pm, when you return home from work. Another critical period is between 12pm and 14pm with the combination of returning for lunch and leaving school.
In its capacity as judicial police, the PM issued 183 (there were 191) crime reports, respectively 12 (there were 11) and one (there were 6) for driving while intoxicated and in a state of psychophysical alteration. Eight (there were 3) omissions, 9 stolen vehicles recovered (there were 6), 26 abandoned vehicles recovered (there were 9). There were 135 building violations confirmed (there were 103) while 846 hours were dedicated to surveillance near schools (there were 743) and 568 checkpoints (there were 580). And still speaking of schools: 1.815 pupils were involved in road education projects.
Two debuts were recorded in 2021: the urban safety - anti-degradation unit which has already clocked up 667 hours and the animal protection unit which had to manage 22 complaints. Finally, fifty-nine joint services with other police forces, practically doubled compared to the 31 in 2020.
