Trieste: new highway code, crackdown and more checks, 5 licenses withdrawn by the Carabinieri.
The Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Trieste, in compliance with the entry into force of the new Highway Code and within the scope of some coordinated territorial control services, have implemented a series of operations aimed at combating drunk driving, preventing and repressing crimes, controlling illegal immigration and monitoring hygiene and safety conditions in public establishments not only in the city centre and in the coastal towns of the area, but also on the Carso.
Five drivers were reported for driving under the influence of alcohol, in violation of art. 186 of the new Highway Code: all drivers, subjected to breathalyzer tests, were found to have a blood alcohol level higher than the limits set by the recently tightened legislation.
In addition to the report, all of them had their licenses revoked, while the cars they were traveling in were entrusted to third parties who were fit to drive.
In one case, the driver, who had already been fined in the past, refused to submit to the check, cursing the officers and obstructing the drawing up of the documents, which is why he will also have to answer for the crime of resisting a public official.
The new law lowered the blood alcohol limits for some categories of drivers and provided for more severe penalties with the withdrawal of the license and a series of other sanctions.
The new Highway Code legislation, which came into force on 14 December 2024, has introduced several changes and updates with the aim of improving road safety, reducing accidents and adapting to new social and technological needs, promoting greater responsibility on the part of drivers.
The main changes concern above all the behaviour of drivers, in relation to the use of alcohol and drugs while driving, the use of mobile phones, also providing greater protection for pedestrians and cyclists.
During the services carried out over the weekend, the military of the Arma also operated on other fronts: in fact, a foreign citizen found illegally in our country was reported, in violation of Article 14 of Legislative Decree 286/1998, which regulates immigration. The man was accompanied to the competent offices for subsequent checks and administrative procedures.
Furthermore, a young man, found in possession of small quantities of cocaine, was reported to the Prefecture of Trieste for personal use of narcotic substances.
Finally, as part of the checks on commercial establishments, the military, together with the personnel of the NAS (Anti-Adulteration and Health Unit) of Udine, inspected two public places, finding some significant irregularities.
The violations mainly concern deficiencies in hygienic-sanitary conditions and non-conformity of equipment, with consequent administrative sanctions and provisions for the restoration of safety conditions.
The Carabinieri of Trieste will continue to intensify checks on the territory, even in the run-up to the end-of-year holidays, with particular attention to the prevention of road crimes and the protection of public health in relation to hygiene conditions in the premises.
