On 11 September 2024, the Carabinieri of the Operational Section of the Operational and Radiomobile Nucleus of Trieste via Hermet arrested a Slovakian citizen for aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
The military, engaged in usual back-pass services and control of the territory in the Caresana area, they came across a van with a Slovakian license plate and tinted windows that had just entered the national territory from Slovenia. The subsequent control of the vehicle allowed them to ensure presence on board, in addition to the owner of the vehicle, also of nine Turkish citizens without identity documents.
The evidence that emerged during the activity allowed us to reconstruct the journey of the group of migrants and their transportation to Italy. The operation, coordinated by the local Public Prosecutor's Office, led to the'arrest of the subject, subsequently associated with the local prison, and the seizure of the vehicle used.
Lo exploitation of illegal immigration by unscrupulous individuals remains a widespread phenomenon, although operated in different ways than in the past. The same appears now managed mostly by foreign entities and with articulated transnational operational chains. The Julian territory remains one of the points where the entire traffic reverberates, emerging in its numerical relevance.
The discreet activity, conducted within the temporary reactivation of border controls, remains of utmost importance.
