Trieste State Police checks: no alcohol or drugs while driving
The State Police were back in the field this weekend with an extraordinary effort in the fight against the abuse of alcohol and drugs, especially to shed light on and combat a phenomenon that is extremely dangerous for public safety and road safety: the driving under the influence of drugs.
On the evening of Saturday 21 September, the Trieste Highway Police Department arranged a control system which involved several patrols from various provinces in action, supported by an analysis laboratory, a real forensic laboratory, capable of analyzing the biological fluids of the drivers checked and establishing with scientific precision whether these contained psycho-active, psychotropic or narcotic substances.
After being checked with breathalyzers, the drivers were subjected to saliva sampling, the sample of which was analysed both with precursor instruments and with a high diagnostic instrument that uses the technique LC-Mass, which is a 2nd level laboratory test.
The screening allows us to ascertain as many as 5 active ingredients: opiates, cannabinoids, cocaine, amphetamines and benzodiazepines.
In case of positive results, drivers are also subjected to medical examination to establish the behavioral alteration as a reflection of the intake of the narcotic substance.
The results are as follows:
- 53 Drivers checked with salivary precursors
- 3 of these had cannabinoids in their saliva
- 2 of these were found to be in a state of alteration and therefore reported to the Judicial Authority for the commission of the crime of driving under the influence of narcotic substances art. 187 cds
- 3 drivers were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol art. 186 cds
- 1 vehicle seized for confiscation
- 5 Licenses withdrawn
– They were 60 points/license deducted
The police operation involved 4 patrols of the Highway Police and medical personnel and laboratory technicians made available by the Alto Adriatico Motorway Company.
On the same evening, along the A/4 motorway, a patrol car stopped for a check a driver who was driving a vehicle registered in a foreign country of the European Union. The examination of the driving licence revealed some irregularities and a subsequent thorough check and further checks revealed that the document was fake as well as the inspection coupons were counterfeit applied to the vehicle registration document. The documents were therefore seized and the driver reported for using false documents, driving without a license and without a vehicle inspection and vehicle seizure ordered.
It is not the intention of the State Police to list a sample of reckless and dangerous behaviors that have disturbed the safety of traffic, but it wants to keep citizens' attention high with respect to reckless and very risky behaviors.
The commitment is to make road users aware of the controls, which have such a high technical content.
To ensure these objectives, checks will continue on other days of the year, even along ordinary roads.
