Trieste: Prostitution ring dismantled: one arrest and one complaint after months of investigation

The activity of the Carabinieri of the Operational Section of the Trieste Company via Hermet in contrast to exploitation of prostitutionThe military, supported by the Radiomobile section and by Trieste Scorcola and San Dorligo della Valle stations, have carried out a series of local and personal searches ordered by the Judicial Authority against two Chinese citizens.

At the end of the operation it was a man arrested, born in '70, while a compatriot, also born in '70, was reported on the looseThe measure is the result of a delicate investigation launched at the beginning of autumn and developed by the Operational Section, which in the previous months had already achieved significant results in the fight against this hateful phenomenon.

Investigations started from massage centers

The first phase of the investigation, concluded during the summer, had allowed the Carabinieri to document the illicit activity within two massage centers on Via Flavia and Via San FrancescoThe investigative activities had led to the preventive seizure of the premises, of cell phones and of Cash considered to be the proceeds of exploitation. Under the direction of the Public Prosecutor, Dr. Federico Frezza, the military then identified the current suspects, reconstructing a management all-encompassing of the prostitution of women of Chinese nationality.

Rents, checks, online ads and money management: the structure of exploitation

According to what emerged from the investigations, the two suspects:

• they rented the properties where the sexual encounters took place,

• they constantly checked the exploited woman,

• they published online ads to promote appointments,

• they managed phone calls, customers and collections.

A real organization "indoor” which exploited more women, rotated on a monthly basis and subjected to working conditions exhaustingThe victims, lured to Italy with the promise of a better life, were then trapped in brothels, forced to live in precarious conditions and deprived of personal freedom. Even in the absence of episodes of blatant violence, the situation describes a serious exploitation, with grueling shifts and minimal wages.

The blitz

During the execution of the searches, the Carabinieri preventively seized theproperty used as a brothel.
In the same context it was identified and freed A Chinese woman, a victim of the exploitation system. Thanks to the collaboration with the reception project “Polar Star”, part of the regional network FVG in network against trafficking, the young girl was transferred to protected area and invited to join a social protection program.

The operation confirms the attention of the Carabinieri towards the fight against forms of modern slavery, particularly against vulnerable women. A complex investigative effort that allowed us to strike at an entrenched system and restore freedom and protection to one of the victims involved.
