The military's timely intervention in the courtrooms averted the worst. CPR and the use of an AED prevented the worst.

Trieste: Carabinieri rescue an 85-year-old man from cardiac arrest in the Palace of Justice.

In early afternoon of December 3, 2025, a man of was hit by a cardiac arrest while he was at the Palace of Justice of Trieste to deliver documents.

The old man suddenly collapsed to the ground, attracting the attention of the people present who the alarm was raised immediately.

Due Carabinieri of the Hermet Street Station, engaged in the assistance service in the courtrooms, rushed to the lower floor to help the man.

  • A soldier has created a safety zone, distancing those present and activating the Operations Center for coordination with healthcare personnel.

  • The other Carabiniere verified that the 85-year-old he was not breathing, he was not conscious and he had no pulse. He then placed it in supine position and immediately started the heart massage.

After making sure the airways were clear, the soldier used the defibrillator (AED) delivered by a security guard on duty at the Court: the first discharge allowed the man to resume breathing, albeit irregularly.

The Carabiniere continued to perform cardiac massage, alternating with a citizen who had stopped to help, following the procedures indicated by the operators of the 118, remained in telephone contact until the ambulance arrived.

Once taken into care by the health workers, the victim was stabilized and transported to red code at the hospital Cattinara, where she is currently hospitalized in reserved prognosis.
