Trapani: crackdown on electric scooters and cell phone use while driving, flurry of fines.

I Carabinieri of the Trapani Company have performed targeted services to increase the road traffic checks, in the context of what was discussed during the provincial committee for public order and safety, chaired by Prefect of Trapani. Particular attention was paid to the new changes to the highway code, which came into force last December.

From 14 December 2024, the electric scooters they can circulate only on urban roads with speed limits up to 50 km/h. IS forbidden the use on extra-urban roads, tunnels, sidewalks and cycle paths. Furthermore, the following obligations have been introduced:

• Use of helmet
• Compulsory insurance policy
• Reflective vest at night
• Turn and stop lights

During the checks carried out along the main arteries of the city, the Carabinieri raised 36 penalties for various violations:

• 10 fines for use of the electric scooter without helmet, without reflective vest and for Failure to adjust the indicator lights
• 3 fines for use of cell phone while driving
• 5 fines for driving without a license
• 6 fines for speed not appropriate for road conditions
• 17 fines for driving a vehicle without insurance coverage

The checks will continue in the coming days to ensure compliance with the rules and road safety.
