On October 27th at the Teatro Civico, five jazz fusion legends will retrace the history of Weather Report and Steps Ahead in a unique concert.

Il 57th La Spezia International Jazz Festival, promoted by Municipality of La Spezia and the Concert Society, presents a new important event.

Il Peter Erskine and the Dr. UM Band featuring Mike Mainieri – Steps into the Weather will be held at the Teatro Civico on October 27th at 9:00 PM. Five artists from the legendary career, five masters absolute masters of their instrument meet on the stage of the Teatro Civico of La Spezia to give life to a unique musical journey, which traces the myth of Weather Reports and Steps Ahead.

Il Mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini declared: “With this event, La Spezia confirms its position as a reference city for great music. The greatest artists choose our city to perform and on October 27th we will bring them to the Civic Theatre Jazz legends, who made music history in the 70s and 80s. We are working constantly to enrich the International Jazz Festival and allow citizens, enthusiasts, and tourists to see great artists live. We are also committed to ensuring that one of the highest-level musical events in Italy doesn't stop at the summer season, but can expand into other seasons as well.

“Steps into the Weather” is a project that celebrates the legacy of two iconic groups in the history of jazz fusion, Weather Report and Steps Ahead., reinterpreting its spirit with energy, creativity and contemporary mastery.

The protagonists

 Peter Erskine, icon of jazz and fusion drumming, was a key member of Weather Report together with Jaco Pastorius and Joe Zawinul, recording five albums including the Grammy Award-winning 8.30.

Mike Mainieri, legendary vibraphonist and composer, founder of Steps Ahead, redefined the fusion of jazz, rock and electronic music by collaborating with Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Dire Straits and David Bowie.

John Beasley, pianist, composer and conductor, is known for his collaboration with Miles Davis and for creating the MONK'estra, a big band dedicated to Thelonious Monk.

Bob Sheppard, saxophonist Among the most sought-after on the jazz and pop scene, he has collaborated with Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell and Steely Dan.

Matthew Garrison, son of the legendary Jimmy Garrison (John Coltrane's bassist), is considered one of the most influential innovators of the electric bass, with collaborations that include Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul and John McLaughlin.
