La Spezia: a purple bench inaugurated in Piazza Verdi for World Epilepsy Day.
On the occasion of World Epilepsy Day, which occurs on 10 February, this morning the Mayor of La Spezia, Pierluigi Peracchini, he went to Verdi Square for the unveiling of a purple bench, a symbol of solidarity and support towards people affected by epilepsy.
“This bench is a symbol of awareness, closeness and commitment to all people affected by epilepsy, for a more inclusive society that overcomes the prejudices and misinformation that still too often revolve around this pathology. - Declares Mayor Peracchini - Thanks to all those who promoted and collaborated on this initiative that helps us break down walls, learn, listen and support each other.”
The initiative is part of the project “Bench epilepsy”, an awareness campaign promoted by the LICE Epilepsy Foundation and Italian League Against Epilepsy, which aims to promote the placement of purple benches – the colour of the fight against epilepsy – in the main Italian cities, in gardens, parks and hospitals.
The event got the Sponsored by the Municipality of La Spezia andAuthorization of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Liguria.
Il purple It was not only chosen to represent epilepsy awareness, but also to help spread a culture ofinformation on the pathology, fighting discrimination and prejudice.
