Summer in Sassari, all the services offered by the Municipality.

The municipal administration of Sassari confirms its commitment to offering adequate services to those who choose to spend the summer on the Sassari coasts. The interventions still show great attention to people with disabilities, to spaces for those who go to the seaside with four-legged friends and to the cleaning of the beaches, with the aim of improving the offer for citizens and tourists. The most important news this year is that from 20 June on the beaches of Platamona, Fiume Santo, Porto Ferro, Argentiera and Porto Palmas there will immediately be a walkway to facilitate access to the coasts even for those with reduced mobility and also There will be a support service for people with disabilities with qualified personnel on all these beaches. The Environment and Public Green Sector has entrusted their management with a public tender to the Vosma Social Cooperative Society.

All the details were presented today 20 June during a press conference attended by the Environment Councilor Antonello Sassu, with the manager Marge Cannas and officials and officials of the sector and the person responsible for the Vosma Corrado Ughi.

People with disabilities. Starting from June 20th, services will be active on the beaches of Platamona, Fiume Santo, Porto Ferro, Argentiera and Porto Palmas, as always free and clear, to make the beaches accessible to people with disabilities. Wooden walkways will be installed on the beaches which will connect the car parks with the shoreline. Pitches will also be created, with wooden flooring, equipped with umbrella, chair and small support balustrade. This year, also on the beaches of Argentiera, Fiume Santo and Porto Palmans, as well as at the Rotonda and Porto Ferro, the presence of qualified operators will be guaranteed who every day, from 9am to 13pm and from 15pm to 19pm, will provide assistance to people with disabilities. Aids such as beach/sea chairs will be available to allow bathing for people with disabilities or walking difficulties. Public toilets will be located on the beaches of Platamona, Fiume Santo, Porto Ferro and Porto Palmas. All rest areas will be kept clean and free of sand at all times. In Platamona and Argentiera showers are available to anyone; the water point is also confirmed in Porto Ferro and Porto Palmas.

Two dog beaches: the municipal administration's commitment to greater sensitivity towards animals was also confirmed. Given the success of previous years, the two spaces on the coast for bathers who bring their four-legged friends to the beach are confirmed. The areas will be close to the entrance to the coast and will be well indicated by signs and both will be usable from 20 June. Dog owners will also have bag and glove dispensers at their disposal and will have to respect the usual rules including cleaning up as soon as the dog gets dirty. The animals must be registered in the canine registry, healthy and microchipped; females must not be in heat; problem dogs must always keep a muzzle and leash.

Cleaning of the beaches, the cleaning service of the coasts for public use began in April and, starting from June 2019st, on the major beaches of the Municipality of Sassari (Porto Ferro, Argentiera, Porto Palmas, Fiume Santo and Platamona) will have an almost daily frequency of cleaning interventions and will be increased daily in the months of July and August. The service also affects the "minor" beaches, but no less interesting from a tourist and environmental point of view, such as the beaches of "La Frana", Lampianu, and Villaggio Nurra. Particular attention will also be given to cleaning the areas behind the beach, the roads and paths leading to and accessing the coast, the areas around the bins and the "information rest areas" of the SIC Lago Baratz - Porto Ferro area. Thirteen ecological islands have been planned throughout the Sassari coast, with containers intended for different types of waste so that separate waste collection is always carried out, as well as spaces intended for smokers, with bins for cigarette butts, as well as signs indicating regulations and sanctions ( on the beaches of Sassari the smoking ban has been established by regulation since XNUMX).

Blue flags and services. Sassari has also been awarded three Blue Flags for 2023: Porto Ferro, Porto Palmas and Platamona. An international recognition that the FEE (Foundation for environmental education) grants to seaside tourist resorts whose management is carried out according to specific sustainability criteria. This establishes not only the purity of the sea waters but also the fact that the Municipality is able to offer a whole series of services. Designing, implementing and maintaining the standards of excellence during the bathing season is an important effort, both organizational and economic, on the part of the Municipality. The beaches may be subject to control visits to verify compliance with the criteria established by the program.

The requirements are many: from the quality of the water, for which periodic sampling is envisaged, to the efficiency of waste water purification, through the conservation and biodiversity of marine ecosystems and beach cleaning, separate waste collection and management. adequate handling of hazardous waste as well as the presence of a fresh water point serving users of the beaches. Particular attention is paid to the safety of swimmers, with rescue services and signaling of safe water limits and accessibility for all. Ample space must be dedicated to environmental education, aimed at schools and young people, tourists and residents: the Environmental Education Center (Ceas) Lago Baratz will carry out activities, workshops and events during the summer season.
