Olbia: Operation West Pole, 21 precautionary measures.

In the early hours of December 15, 2025 i Carabinieri of the Olbia Territorial Department, with the support of Stations competent for the territory and the Helicopter Squadron Hunters "Sardegna", they implemented 21 precautionary measures issued by the GIP of the Court of Cagliari, at the request of District Anti-Mafia Directorate.

The measure is part of a complex investigation about two distinct criminal groups involved in drug trafficking, operational in Sardinia and with projections on the peninsulaThe precautionary measures taken include 10 pre-trial detentions in prison, 6 house arrest e 5 residence obligations, implemented in the provinces of Sassari, Nuoro, Cagliari, Bergamo, Latina, and Novara.

THEinvestigative activity, started in 2019, has allowed us to document a complex criminal system engaged in the large-scale production, importation and distribution of cocaine and marijuanaThe investigations, conducted by wiretaps, shadowing, targeted seizures, asset searches and chat acquisitions via international rogatory letters and Europol, they outlined two criminal associations pursuant to art. 74 of Presidential Decree 309/90, autonomous but functionally interconnected.

La first network, composed by eleven people, would have managed thecocaine supply from the peninsulaThrough stable contacts with other criminal associations operating in different Italian regions. The second association, consisting of five individuals, would instead have dedicated itself to the production and movement of large quantities of marijuana in Sardinia.

According to the evidence collected, part of the marijuana was systematically given to the first association as a bargaining chip to finance the purchase of cocaine, with a estimated ratio of approximately 50 kg of marijuana to 1 kg of cocaine. Overall, they were Over 200 kg of cocaine and over 450 kg of marijuana were documented in transit, For a estimated economic volume of approximately 3 million euros.

In the context of the investigation, Olbia has emerged as a strategic logistics hub, place of custody, sorting and management of negotiations, also due to the presence of multiple affiliates with direct connections to suppliers.

THEOperation "West Pole" represents a further commitment of the Carabinieri in the fight against criminal organizations that undermine the territorial security.
